Skip the showroom: A better way to shop for flooring

Clear Choice Flooring is reinventing the model for how Northeast Ohio homeowners shop for flooring, making it easy and hassle-free.

In an industry often defined by overwhelming showrooms, endless samples and pushy salespeople, Chris Dysert and Steve Sevinsky are a breath of fresh air.

Nearly four decades of combined experience in the construction industry, much of it spent in high-end custom homebuilding and helping to build one of Cleveland’s largest home improvement companies, they saw firsthand what worked—and what didn’t. This led them to found Clear Choice Flooring last year. Their family-run business has been flipping the script on flooring ever since—one home at a time.

Chris and Steve are local through and through. They live in the area, are raising young families here—seven kids between them—and are committed to serving their neighbors. “We’re here for the long haul,” says Steve. “When you work with us, you can count on us being around to take care of you and your home.”

“We’ve crafted a culture of processes that lead to the best possible outcomes for homeowners,” Chris adds. “We wanted to bring back integrity, transparency and enjoyment.”

Why Can’t it Be Fun?

“Our goal is to make transforming your home fun again,” says Steve. “Homeowners are so busy nowadays. We’ve had customers tell us time and again they thought about replacing their floors over the years but stalled out during the shopping part of the process.”

For busy families like Brunswick homeowners Mike and Maria Kieliszek, that convenience made all the difference. As parents working from home, with two young children, they say the traditional showroom experience simply wasn’t practical.

For many homeowners, the typical flooring search means driving to a store, hauling home a few small samples that hardly show what the floor will really look like, then making return trips to the store—sometimes while feeling pressured to hurry the samples back.

That’s never the case with Clear Choice Flooring. They bring the showroom to the comfort of your home. Chris or Steve will show you an array of samples and guide you through making selections that are on trend. What makes the in-home experience even more helpful is that Chris and Steve don’t just show samples—they lay larger pieces of flooring down so homeowners can see how the material looks next to their cabinets, furniture and wall colors. Clients can move the pieces from room to room and view them in different lighting throughout the day, making it much easier to envision the finished result.

That hands-on approach proved invaluable for the Kieliszeks, who say they wouldn’t have thought to evaluate how lighting impacts the look of each option. With Steve’s guidance, they were able to compare shades throughout their home and feel confident in their final choice.

Homeowners often say they felt empowered—not pressured—throughout the process, with clear explanations of materials, durability and what to expect long term.

“Real hardwoods, engineered hardwoods, luxury vinyl plank, luxury vinyl tile, laminates, carpeting, we walk through the pros and cons of each and how they fit into your individual lifestyle,” says Chris.

Over the years the technology of flooring has evolved significantly and today options are long-lasting, waterproof and scratch-resistant for people with kids, pets and high traffic.

“Every homeowner has a perfect fit and we excel at finding it,” says Steve. “By simplifying the process, at the end of the day our clients feel confident in their choices.”

Precision is elemental to the measuring process, too. The gentlemen use high-end moisture meters and laser leveling tools to ensure exacting specifications are met.

Because Chris and Steve visit the home to measure during the first consultation, they can identify potential installation challenges right away. From determining whether flooring can be installed over an existing surface to making sure appliances like refrigerators will still fit under cabinets, addressing these details early helps prevent surprises later.

“We prep the floors before installation to meet strict flatness tolerances,” says Steve. “If it’s not done right, it won’t last.”

Bringing the Showroom to Your Home

When Mike and Maria decided it was time to replace their builder-grade flooring, they quickly realized this wasn’t just a simple update—it was a chance to completely transform how their home looked and felt. As the third owners of a 2006-built home, they knew the original flooring had reached the end of its lifespan—especially with kids and pets putting it to the test daily.

“Steve made himself available on our timing and brought the flooring samples to us,” Mike says. “He explained the different types of materials and what we should be looking for.”

The couple chose luxury vinyl plank throughout their first and second floors, with carpeting in the primary bedroom. They were drawn to the durability and comfort underfoot, noting the flooring is thicker than many alternatives they had considered, helping reduce noise while standing up to scratches, spills and everyday wear.

“Another benefit is that they move everything for you,” Maria adds. “That was super helpful in the process because we didn’t have to worry about where we’d put everything. They take care of every detail.”

Despite replacing more than 2,000 square feet of flooring, the installation was completed in just a few days. The family says the crew was efficient, respectful and kept disruption to a minimum—making what is often considered a stressful process feel surprisingly smooth.

Control Over Quality—a Key Differentiator

Chris and Steve are believers in only hiring the most experienced installers. Unlike many larger flooring companies that rely on outside crews, Clear Choice Flooring works with experienced installers dedicated exclusively to their projects.

“The crew working in your home is our crew,” says Chris. “They are not rushing off to the next job for another company. Our installers are local craftsmen who meet our standards. Homeowners will see us on the jobsite supervising the work.”

Clear Choice Flooring’s streamlined operational efficiency and in-home sales process opens the door for Steve and Chris to offer premium materials at competitive prices with true lifetime warranties.

In fact, they explain, the materials they install exceed industry norms.

“While many flooring companies install luxury vinyl plank around 5.5 millimeters thick, our standard product is 12 millimeters—and we never go below 6.5 millimeters,” says Chris. “That added thickness makes a noticeable difference in durability, sound insulation and comfort underfoot.”

The planks are also longer, up to 6 feet, to create a more seamless, high-end look. Advanced digital imaging ensures minimal pattern repetition for a more natural look.

Beyond interior flooring, the company also installs epoxy flooring for basements and garages—creating clean, durable surfaces that stand up to heavy use while giving those spaces a polished, finished look.

Flooring Trends in the NEO

“A few years ago, everyone wanted gray,” says Steve. “Nowadays, gray is gone and instead people are choosing more timeless looks that work with any décor. We’re seeing a return to natural wood looks, whether hardwoods or floors, that mimic the look of natural wood.”

Whatever flooring the homeowner selects, the crews go the extra mile when it comes to finishing details. They make sure the baseboards and trim work are done right.

“From custom stain and paint matching baseboards, our crews ensure a cohesive, finished look,” says Chris.

For homeowners like the Kieliszeks, the result goes beyond new flooring—it’s a transformation. What was once a worn, dated surface is now a standout feature that elevates the entire home. “It completely changed how our house feels,” they say. “Now, when people walk in, it’s the first thing they notice.”
