The Van Boxel difference
Details, details, details.

It really shouldn’t be that hard. How many times have we all said that about a kitchen or bath renovation? Jayson Skudrin, lead designer at Van Boxel Kitchen & Flooring, and the rest of the staff here have been making kitchen and bath renovations easy, convenient and affordable for the past six years.
“Kyle Van Boxel started Van Boxel Building Supply, offering overstocked building supplies like roofing and siding materials, windows and doors,” says Jayson. “He added new flooring, cabinets and other kitchen and bath supplies in 2018, sourcing materials from areas in the U.S. and overseas to find the best prices, then passing the savings along to customers.”
Today, Van Boxel Kitchen & Flooring offers flooring, cabinetry, vanities, tile and more, along with design services at its Streetsboro, Chardon and soon-to-be Middlefield locations.
“Walk in with an idea and walk out with a full design and itemized quote,” says Jayson. “Every aspect of the project is offered à la carte, so you can see exactly where your money is going and make informed budget decisions.”
It’s that full transparency that Jayson says sets Van Boxel apart from competitors.
“However knowledgeable you are in terms of a renovation, we will meet there and handhold you through the entire process,” says Jayson. “If you’re not working with a contractor or installer, we have a list of highly recommended people we work with, making the process even easier. And we’ll help the DIYers, too.”
Jayson says that Van Boxel doesn’t sub out installers and warns that some companies will gatekeep preferred tradespeople to make more money off the job.
“This is just one of the ways we keep your cost down—typically 30% lower overall than the big-box stores,” says Jayson. “We don’t have several departments where when one is losing money, we have to jack up the prices somewhere else to make up for it.”
Van Boxel’s relationships with contractors and tradespeople streamline their process, making it more cost efficient.
The Van Boxel Process
Your dream space begins with a visit to Van Boxel Kitchen & Flooring. Stop in or make an online appointment to ensure prompt, one-on-one time with your designer for a free design consultation.
Bring along photos and rough measurements of your space and let the designers guide you through the showroom to see and touch all the choices for cabinets, flooring, vanities and more.
“We offer several style and color options in prices to fit every budget,” says Jayson. “Cabinetry, for example, can be selected from stock Van Boxel cabinets, semi-custom options or fully custom Amish-made cabinetry. Even our Van Boxel products are made right here in the area.”
After selections have been made—and your initial choices are never binding—your designer will lay out your space and project it on a large screen for you to review.
“At this point we’ll discuss budget and make necessary changes,” says Jayson. “This is the fun part, where you can see all the things that can be done. We’ll then make an appointment to come out to your home to take exact measurements and finalize a design.”
Van Boxel designers are much more than store associates. These are experts with an eye for the details necessary to take a few photos and measurements and then have a conversation with you and create something unique and beautiful.
“Our designers listen and explain every aspect of this process,” says Jayson. “You don’t know what you don’t know. That’s what we’re here for.”
After the home visit, your designer gets busy communicating with your contractor, so everyone is working off the same timeline.
“We make sure everyone is available and every last supply has been delivered before we begin your project,” says Jayson.
As Jayson says, referring to Van Boxel’s organized and deliberate process, “It’s all about coordination.”
The Van Boxel Culture
Jayson’s favorite part of working with the team at Van Boxel is the local, family-owned aspect of this company.
“We are team working together for our clients,” says Jayson. “We bounce ideas off of each other and work together on a challenging design. Everyone here has unique backgrounds and we pull from all of that experience.”
Van Boxel designers also take appointments virtually.
“This isn’t a corporate culture,” says Jayson. “It’s a no-fluff, straightforward environment where we all have a great deal in common with our customers. One day I’m working on a kitchen with a customer and the next day I see them at the grocery store. I have to be able to look them in the eye and know I’m giving them the best. At Van Boxel, we’re doing that every day.”
