When we hear the word “performance,” we often think of elite athletes and those in the creative world, whether on the field or on the stage. In reality, performance is a part of all our lives—no matter what we’re doing. And when you get right down to it, performance success is all about preparation.
Daily life demands our bodies perform in countless ways. Lifting groceries, climbing stairs, keeping up with young children and managing long workdays all require energy, strength and balance. No matter your age or fitness level, your life and body aren’t always asking for peak physical condition. They’re usually just asking for strength, mobility and resilience so you can move through your life with ease and confidence.
StretchLab is all about helping people achieve their individual peak performance by offering one-on-one assisted stretching guided by trained experts, called Flexologists, who provide a stretch that can’t be achieved alone.
“Our assisted stretches get you moving and keep you moving no matter what activities you’re doing, even if that’s just getting through your daily routine pain free,” says area manager Jenna Wiebe. “Everyone’s goals are unique. We work with clients of all ages and abilities. Some are competing in a sport at a high level and are looking for increased flexibility and strength. Others simply want to improve a golf swing, run a marathon or maintain their independence as they age. Whatever the goal, we’ll help each individual reach it by improving performance with every stretch. Once the goal is reached, together we’ll set new ones.”
Jenna says people often fail to stretch because they aren’t sure how to go about it properly and are afraid of hurting themselves. At StretchLab, you’ll not only learn the proper way to stretch for your needs, your Flexologist will do it for you.
Before you arrive for your first stretch session, a Flexologist reaches out about your goals, lifestyle, past injuries and other general information. StretchLab Flexologists have backgrounds in various areas of health and fitness, like yoga, personal training, massage and nursing. They complete an extensive, three-tiered certification process that includes 60 hours of in-person workshops and 20-plus hours of hands-on training administering the 26 signature StretchLab stretches designed to address every muscle group in the body.
Your initial, 50-minute stretch begins with a simple MAPS assessment determining mobility, activation, posture and symmetry. MAPS allows Flexologists to identify your specific strengths and weaknesses so they can target the right muscle groups, and you get the most out of every session.
“Flexologists use a stretching technique called proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, which uses resistance to target the body’s tissues and ligaments and improve muscle elasticity,” says Jenna. “You are never in pain and are always in control of your stretch. We’ll push you further than you’d push yourself, so you experience more significant results. We can actually feel your muscles responding.”
Your StretchLab Flexologist is your wellness partner. Through every stretch, he or she explains what they’re doing and not only welcomes, but depends on, your feedback to ensure your stretch is addressing your specific needs.
“Spring is a great time of year to start an assisted stretching program,” says Jenna. “We’re already getting back outdoors, playing golf, pickleball, tennis and running and walking. Let StretchLab help to get you back in the game of life, performing better than ever.”
