Routine is the secret to permanent change. We know that in order to be successful at just about anything, you have to keep it up. So, what stops us? The hard part is consistency, the real driver of long-term success.

At StretchLab assisted stretching in Hudson, one of the main goals is to help clients feel good so they can maintain a routine, whether that’s participation in a sport like golf or pickleball, or improving your functional performance as you age. It’s tough to be consistent when you just don’t feel good. StretchLab can help you with that.

“We have clients ranging from high school athletes who want to perform better at their sport to grandparents wanting to remain on their own and stay active with their grandchildren,” StretchLab Hudson General Manager Kim Newhouse says. “It’s all about what’s important to you. And everything is better, and easier, when you add a stretching routine to the mix.”

Not all stretching is the same. And sometimes we can do more harm than good. That’s why at StretchLab, you will be stretched by a trained expert, a Flexologist, who will guide you through a series of stretches unique to your specific needs and goals.

All StretchLab Flexologists are extensively trained experts with a background in fitness that may include bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a related field, along with experience in a related field like yoga, personal training and more. Flexologists complete an extensive, three-tiered certification process that includes more than 60 hours of in-person workshops and online training and many hands-on practice hours administering StretchLab’s signature 26 stretches to hone their skills.

Your Flexologist uses a stretching technique called proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, or PNF, which uses resistance to target your body’s tissues and ligaments and improve muscle elasticity.

“We work off of a tension scale of 1-10 for every stretch,” Kim says. “We want the stretch to feel good, without pain, but move you beyond your typical range of motion so you are always progressing.”

Flexologists participate in continuing education, always learning new ways to help clients reach their goals. And everyone’s goals are different.

“The success of our clients confirms the importance of stretching,” Kim says. “And it’s not just physical. There’s a mind-body connection to stretching that reduces stress and promotes relaxation.”

Your first stretch at StretchLab begins with a simple MAPS assessment to determine Mobility, Activation, Posture and Symmetry to provide your Flexologist with information they need to ensure that you get the most out of your session.

“We recommend a 50-minute, 26-stretch initial session that targets every muscle group,” Kim says. “We’ll test your limitations, capabilities and structure a plan for your specific needs. This is a highly personalized experience. No two stretches are the same because you are changing and improving with each visit.”

StretchLab members of all ages and physical abilities have discovered the life-changing benefits of stretching. Kim says they have clients who came in with walkers, unable to walk unassisted and after a few stretches, left the walker behind.

“Helping clients reach those goals, whether that’s getting rid of a walker, improving their sports performance or running a marathon, it’s all the same because it’s important to you,” Kim says. “Many clients have the goal of remaining independent for as long as possible. That’s a goal we’re thrilled to help with.”

Daily activities require motions like bending, stretching and reaching. StretchLab can make those movements easier, longer. And if you’re sitting at a desk or driving a car all day, consistent stretching alleviates back, shoulder and neck pain.

“Regular stretching builds muscle, keeps muscle flexible and improves joint function,” Kim says. “This is all critical for injury prevention. It’s not just a stretch. It’s strengthening your body from the inside out.”

If it sounds like stretching is the key to success, and it just might be, consistency is crucial. StretchLab has made consistency even easier with its new all-access program. Members of any single studio can get a stretch at any location throughout the country.

“We’re excited to offer this for our members, especially for the snowbirds and those who travel frequently,” Kim says. “Nothing says ‘I need a stretch’ like a long plane ride. Now you can pop in at any StretchLab location and keep the momentum going.”

This year, add StretchLab to your wellness routine and gain the confidence to move, work, play and be better.
