I can hear!

Rediscover everyday sounds of life.

A pair of hands holds a white, open-top container filled with vibrant orange and purple flower buds.

Moments like these are made richer when every sound, from the skipping stones or chirps of birds, can be fully heard with the help of Sounds of Life Hearing Center.

Peepers, Dr. Curtis, do you know what those are? I can hear them. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard them before.”

That moment between her and a patient is one Sarah Curtis, Au.D. CH-TM, founder of Sounds of Life Hearing Center in Concord Township, will never forget.

“The sounds of spring may be telling you something important,” says Dr. Curtis. “He was talking about tiny frogs singing in the dark. He wasn’t talking about conversation or television,”

Hearing loss rarely announces itself. It creeps in slowly, dimming sounds so gradually that most people don’t notice what they’ve lost. Spring peepers. Birdsong. Rain on the roof. A grandchild laughing. The ping of a golf ball leaving the club. These are the sounds that make life feel full—and they’re often the first to fade.

“When the brain doesn’t get enough sounds, it works harder just to keep up,” says Dr. Curtis. “It can lead to fatigue, stress, anxiety and pulling away from the people and activities you love.”

Studies by Glick and Sharma show the brain begins to reorganize itself when hearing input is reduced. Social withdrawal and depression are well-documented, and both are serious threats to long-term health and memory.

“At Sounds of Life, care begins long before a hearing aid is discussed,” says Dr. Curtis.

“Audiologists start by getting to know you, your life, your health, goals and concerns. Hearing is tested in both a quiet and noisy environment because real life is rarely quiet.”

Testing results are clearly explained, then you and your audiologist build a full treatment plan that often includes hearing aids but never stops there.

“Patients learn better communication strategies, enroll in LACE AI, a brain-training listening program, and gain the tools to stay safe and connected at home,” says Dr. Curtis “Follow-up care measures real outcomes such as, ‘Is environmental perception better? Is fatigue reduced?’”

May is Better Hearing & Speech Month—and the peepers are calling.

Sounds of Life Hearing Center is located at 8003 Auburn Road, Suite 4, in Concord Township. For more information and to schedule an appointment, call 440-579-4085 or visit the website SoundsOfLifeHC.com.
