Suite spot for seniors

The upgraded suites at Royalton Reserve Senior Living provide gracious accommodations, but it’s the environment outside the well-appointed rooms that really has people buzzing.

People dine and socialize in a bright, sunlit dining room with large windows, tables, and a service counter in the back.

You might not expect a Luau—complete with Hawaiian music, grilled pineapple chicken, themed drinks with tiny umbrellas, group activities, leis and a visit from the Kona Ice food truck—to take place at an assisted living facility. But there’s a lot of “unexpected” happening at Royalton Reserve Senior Living.

“We care as much about our residents’ social connections, hobbies and pastimes as we do their physical well-being,” says Owner Kelsey Shank. “Before opening in February, we took the facility down to the studs and reimagined the spaces with joy, connection and fulfillment in mind.”

That translates into creating a cinema, game room, library, craft rooms, a chapel, a salon and spa, outdoor courtyard with fountain, walking trails, and indoor garden space for raised container beds. Kelsey and her team refurbished the meeting rooms and studio suites with new flooring, cabinetry, lighting and plush furnishings.

Calling all Social Butterflies

“Our schedule is jam-packed with events to appeal to varying tastes,” says Kelsey. “Last month Hayden Grove from “The Voice” entertained at a happy hour. We want our residents to stay curious, so we offer an engaging lunch and learn series. Exercise (dancing and chair aerobics) and games (bingo, brain games) are very popular, too. Seasonally, we plan pursuits such as trick or treat, cookie decorating and fall crafts.”

At the end of the day, she says its mission is to make residents feel at home as soon as they move in.

“We take away the stress of leaving a home and moving to senior care, including collaborating with The Golden Group to facilitate selling a home, as well as Medicaid education and having a social worker on staff to help people through the process,” she says.

It Begins with a Plan

According to Executive Director Mike Oakes, detailed personalized care plans assess which care services may be needed, from daily living help to medication management, as well as treatment from speech, occupational or physical therapists.

“With a nurse on duty 24/7, we offer a sense of security to residents and their families,” he says. “They also have call lights in their main room and bathroom and wear medical alert pendants.”

From-Scratch Dining

Residents enjoy three scrumptious meals a day, and if they wish they can make their own meals in their ample kitchenettes.

“Our chef John Vaughn leans toward fresh ingredients that celebrate what’s in season,” says Kelsey. “He goes to farmers markets and is picky about only bringing in the best. He recently went to a peach farm and brought back beautiful produce for desserts.”

What Residents and Families are Saying

Reviews for Royalton Reserve have been overwhelmingly positive.

Judy F.’s father moved in back in May. “My dad likes his room (“it looks like a hotel”), and the staff made him feel welcome. Due to the late arrival time, they asked if my brother and I wanted to stay and eat dinner with my dad. It was nice to enjoy a relaxing meal with him and get to see the various meal options available. The staff we have met so far are very nice and attentive.”

Ann D.’s mother-in-law is a resident. “The staff is so caring and kind. The tour was so informative, and we are happy that she has adjusted so well. She was offered lunch during her tour and loved the food. She has told us how good every meal has been since she has gotten there. The other residents welcomed her with open arms, and it alleviated so much stress and anxiety on our part as well as hers. We/she could not be happier!”

Ashlee A. says, “Our experience with Royalton Reserve has been nothing short of wonderful. The staff is warm, attentive and truly cares about the well-being of every resident. It brings us peace of mind knowing our loved one is in such capable and compassionate hands.”

Royalton Reserve is located at 12799 Doula Lane, in North Royalton. Call Executive Director Mike Oakes directly to schedule a tour and enjoy a free lunch, 330-760-7352. Visit RoyaltonReserve.com for more information.

Inviting Community Involvement

The management and residents at Royalton Reserve Senior Living know how to throw a party—and they like to invite their neighbors in the community of North Royalton to join in on the fun.

“We love it when folks pop in for our special events and monthly programs, such as Bingo Nights on the third Thursday of the month starting at 2 p.m.,” says Owner Kelsey Shank. “Every fourth Thursday of the month, we offer health screenings, and our physical therapist gives talks on issues like balance stability and how to prevent falls. We also invite the community to attend our happy hours and musical nights.”
