Hearing health starts with prevention
Sounds of Life Hearing Center has some tips on how to take control of avertable hearing loss that will not only reduce risk but benefit long-term wellness.

Even though ears are a part of the body, they don’t always get treated that way, especially when it comes to taking precautions and managing overall health. Yes, there are age-related genetic conditions that are unavoidable, but there are also types of hearing loss that can be easily prevented. Sounds of Life Hearing Center has some tips on how to take control of avertable hearing loss that will not only reduce risk but benefit long-term wellness.
“Protecting your hearing doesn’t mean avoiding noise; it means being smart about it,” Dr. Sarah Curtis, Audiologist and Founder of Sounds of Life Hearing Center, says. She recommends having a plan in place for situations where loud noise is expected, and to follow three simple ways to protect the ears: Turn it down, move away or wear hearing protection.
When exposed to loud noise, take listening breaks and move away from the source if possible. Be aware of the volume when using headphones, even if they are noise-canceling, and wear hearing protection that fits well.
Reducing risk of hearing loss can also be achieved holistically by exercising, staying hydrated, eating well and not smoking. Diabetes and high blood pressure can increase the risk of hearing loss and should be treated by a medical doctor.
“What’s good for your heart is good for your hearing,” Dr. Curtis says. “Healthy blood flow helps keep the inner ear healthy.”
All of this is to say, ears don’t come sold separately and taking steps to protect them not only promotes good hearing health, but also good health in general. For any concerns or if hearing loss is suspected, Sounds of Life Hearing Center is here to answer questions, determine the issues and help come up with a plan for better hearing in the future.
