Since older homes were built following older codes, they tend to have fewer electrical outlets, which we find leads homeowners to use more extension cords and power strips. Wiring can also be a concern. Many homes built before 1950 have what’s known as knob-and-tube wiring, with porcelain knobs and tubes to support cloth-insulated wiring. Since it presents a fire risk and does not meet current safety standards, we recommend replacing it with modern wiring.
