If you’re an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” sort of person, maybe you should ask yourself how happy you are with your current dentist.
Instead of the same-old, same-old level of oral health care you’ve been experiencing for years, you and your family could be enjoying a heightened patient experience and next-level care.
One local practice—Sinick Family Dental—continually raises the bar, introducing new technology and traveling the country to complete advanced training. What this means for patients is more precise diagnostics, less invasive treatment with fewer appointments and superior outcomes.
Within the beautiful and homey farmhouse-style building Dr. Christopher Sinick and Dr. Jessica Sinick built three years ago, you’ll find an array of high-tech equipment, from digital X-rays, a 3D printer, soft-tissue laser and 3D imaging to a mill for CEREC same-day crowns.
The husband-and-wife team reports that since nearly everything is done within the practice’s on-site lab, patients don’t need to wait for anything to be processed in a lab elsewhere.
They are proud to be one of a few practices in the area to mill their own CEREC same-day crowns.
“For us and our patients, we feel like time has become its own invaluable currency,” Dr. Christopher says. “We’d rather have someone wait a few minutes in the chair for their work to be done here than have to make a second appointment two or three weeks later. And in terms of quality and precision, we like to have complete control over every step of the treatment process.”
Faster Healing, Tissue and Bone Regeneration
Last month, after receiving training in Charlotte, North Carolina, the team introduced PRP (platelet rich plasma) to its operations.
By spinning a tiny draw of the patient’s blood in a centrifuge, they are able to separate growth factors that stimulate faster healing, tissue and bone regeneration, as well as reduced bleeding during and after procedures.
“Though PRP has been used in the surgical field for several years, there are many applications new to the dental field,” says Dr. Jessica. “We’ve already found it to be particularly helpful in treating older patients, diabetics and those who are immunocompromised. In some cases, PRP has opened up avenues of treatment that were not previously available to them, as it regenerates bone and soft tissue and gives us more to work with.”
They plan to use PRP with procedures from simple extractions to dental implants and more complicated periodontal and rehabilitative work with bone grafting.
Dental Anxiety? Have No Fear
Being able to show patients imaging of their teeth to go over their treatment plan helps bring comfort, knowledge and engagement. Dr. Jessica says they take the time to show patients imaging of their teeth on the operatories’ large screens before coming up with a treatment plan together.
“We can discuss the pathology and what it will take to fix it,” she adds. “We can also show them a digital smile design of what is possible through cosmetic dentistry and clear alighners.”
The doctors go the extra mile for patients who may suffer from dental anxiety, too, offering nitrous oxide, oral sedation or full sedation from an anesthesiologist if necessary.
When someone on Facebook recently asked for a recommendation for the best local, gentle dentist who treats patients with dental fear, Dr. Christopher’s name was at the top of the list.
Janet G. was nervous about having a filling replaced because her initial experience with a prior dentist had been awful.
“But Dr. Sinick was amazing,” she says. “He had the old filling cleaned and replaced with minimal discomfort. My first words were ‘That’s it? That was so easy.’ The dental hygienists are super. I see Melanie and she is so gentle and thorough. She puts you at ease immediately.”
Even though the cheerful, family-focused pair has evolved over the years, the reason they love their careers today remains the same as when they graduated from dental school—changing people’s smiles changes their lives, and a healthy mouth makes for a healthy body.
“We love it when patients leave us smiling with confidence and new-found self-esteem,” Dr. Christopher says. “Sometimes they tell us they got a promotion at work.”
Not surprisingly, over the years the Sinicks have treated several generations in the same families, from toddlers to teens to seniors.
As busy parents to four active (and adorable) children, they appreciate how other parents struggle to schedule appointments, so they offer extended morning and evening hours. They also make scheduling and treatment planning a breeze with the convenient patient portal at SinickFamilyDental.com.
Sinick Family Dental offers extended hours for busy families: Mondays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
