Treating sciatica effectively
One of the most common back ailments we treat, sciatica can also be one of the most painful and debilitating.

It’s estimated that 40% of people will experience sciatica at some point in their lives. One of the most common back ailments we treat, sciatica can also be one of the most painful and debilitating.
Compression causes shooting pain that runs along the sciatic nerve, from the L4 and L5 nerve roots in the lower back down the hip, the hamstring, the calf, and then the foot. Many patients also experience tingling, numbness or weakness.
Diagnostic testing such as an X-ray, MRI or CAT scan dictates treatment.
Along with my fellow chiropractor Dr. Aden Cockburn, we customize our conservative care options to each patient. They can include non surgical spinal decompression, traction, chiropractic adjustment, physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture and flexion-distraction therapy to stretch and decompress the spine. We also teach patients decompressive exercises they can follow at home after treatment.
Our main goal is to decompress the nerve and alleviate the pinch. In other words, get it to calm down.
Instead of masking symptoms, we pinpoint the source of compression that’s causing the pain and alleviate it.
Common causes for sciatica include obesity, sitting for prolonged periods and heavy lifting. We often see more patients in the early springtime, as people are venturing outside and doing physical activities like yard work they may not have done during winter.
Luckily, sciatica is a condition that is effectively treatable with chiropractic care.
