Transformers

The exterior space transformers at Peters Professional Landscaping can prepare the perfect fall escape—just outside the back door.

Peters Professional Landscaping crews are already busy doing fall cleanups, getting rid of debris in the beds, cutting down ornamental grasses and perennials, and reducing harborage areas that might be attractive to rodents and insects.

Looking to get a little more fall out of your fall?

The exterior space transformers at Peters Professional Landscaping are your go-to guys. Serving Northeast Ohio since 1992, they’ve created thousands of backyard outer sanctums that are a reflection of the homeowners’ personal styles.

“We see our backyard design services as a way of extending the home,” says owner Chris Peters. “Just as bringing natural elements into a home’s interior design is trending, so, too, is bringing interior elements out, from tricked-out kitchens and bars to cozy pergolas, pavilions, fire features, water features, outdoor lighting to set the mood and radiant heating that extends the season.”

Now that Cleveland Browns games are making Sundays game days, he says homeowners are adding large inflatable projection screens to their patio schemes.

“There’s nothing better this time of year than families throwing around the football and enjoying kickoffs outdoors,” says Chris. “They are also wonderful for movie nights with the neighbors and kids’ parties. And the pricing of these screens has dropped over the past several years to make them a smart alternative to a more expensive outdoor television.”

To complement the space, landscape designers from Peters work with a canvas of colorful and low-maintenance landscaping design that changes throughout spring, summer and fall.

“We are sensitive to people’s budgets when it comes to hardscape and softscape design,” he says. “We can create a new patio and implement phases of it over a few years if that works best. For instance, we can lay a paver patio one year, then add other elements over subsequent years. It’s important to have a master plan to stick to.”

Fall Planting, Pruning

Those in the landscaping industry know that now’s the optimal time of year for planting new landscaping and putting in new lawns.

Soil that’s still fairly warm and cooler temperatures create the perfect conditions for root systems to establish themselves.

“As we head further into fall, it’s also a good juncture to prune your trees and shrubs before they go dormant after Thanksgiving,” he says. “Our master pruners know the perfect amount to take back each variety so they will thrive and bloom come springtime.”

His crews are busy doing fall cleanups, too, getting rid of debris in the beds, cutting down ornamental grasses and perennials, and reducing harborage areas that might be attractive to rodents and insects.

Still Time to Dive In

Chris reports his pool division is busy doing consultations for pool installations to take place next spring, and even later this fall. Working with a top manufacturer of gorgeous, low-maintenance fiberglass pools, they can customize each one to fit a homeowner’s lifestyle, including bells and whistles like cascading multilevel configurations, sunken spillover spas and built-in benches within the pool.

“As long as the ground isn’t frozen, we can still dig pools,” he adds. “The Old Farmer’s Almanac, if you believe in its predictive power, foresees the upcoming winter to have warmer-than-normal temperatures and below-normal snowfall for our region.”

He says pre-planning pools helps people lock in to today’s pricing. Who knows what will happen between now and next summer?

You’ll find all the fall-forward design elements needed to elevate your indoor and outdoor decor at Peters Nursery.

“Folks are looking for old-fashioned authenticity in their homes,” says owner Chris Peters. “We’ve brought in truckloads of pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, different sizes of hay bales and loads of cornstalks, too. Colored pumpkins are hotter than ever and we’ve got a rainbow of colors to choose from, whether you’re looking to create a stark white color scheme or do something with bright yellow and turquoise.”

On the plant side, he says they have an extensive variety of mums and asters to brighten any home or make a bold statement on the front porch.

“You’ll find an array of charming, fall-themed home decor items here,” he says. “Halloween decor is a growing trend and whatever your style, from eerie vintage to frightful and gothic, we’ve got you covered.”

In addition to fall items, Chris reports for those who like to plant their own nursery stock, they’ve brought in different species of shrubs and trees, all grown in Ohio to ensure long life and enduring beauty.

“Red maples, white oaks and beech trees are popular this time of year and so are dogwoods,” he says.
