Sizzle…and steak
The freshly reimagined Brown Derby Wood-Fired Steakhouse sets the tone for special occasions and romantic date nights, but that’s not all this legendary restaurant has to offer.

Following a floor-to-ceiling renovation this summer, Brown Derby Wood-Fired Steakhouse in Middleburg Heights is unveiling a stylish new dining and event space designed for everything from date nights to milestone celebrations.
The new look blends the steakhouse traditions longtime guests love with a decidedly more modern, sophisticated vibe. At the heart of the makeover is a new combined dining and event space that can seat up to 100 guests.
“The reaction so far has been remarkable,” says Owner George Abboud. “People are coming in and loving it.”
The new 1,100-square-foot space can be smartly sectioned off through gorgeous sliding glass doors to accommodate smaller sized gatherings, too. Think holiday parties, birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, weddings, wine and bourbon tastings, showers and corporate presentations.
Classic Steakhouse Vibes
Completed in June, George says this is the most dramatic transformation the restaurant has undergone.
“We gutted everything and opened up the bar area, while the dining spaces have been reimagined with a nice mix of high-top tables and cozy booths,” he adds. “The new rooms will be anchored by a long communal table and other square ones surrounding it.”
When you walk in the entrance, you’re greeted by a dramatic six-foot horizontal fireplace with sparkling fire glass as a focal point. Stunning wood-slatted blinds add a masculine hint to the décor, while dim lighting, contemporary sconces and Art Deco touches create an intimate evening esthetic. Two soaring walls of wine offer a visual reminder that George takes his vino seriously.
“I’ve put together a wine list with bottles from around the world at every price point,” he says.
The palette mixes cinnamon and steel-gray tones with glimmering brushed-gold accent lighting. Instead of generic artwork, George opted for real pieces, including works from local artists and French-inspired wall art that lend the new event space the feeling of a European café or tasting room.
“It’s modern yet very comfortable,” he says. “Founded in 1941, the Brown Derby name has been around for so long because we’ve always been able to serve exceptional food and make every visit feel like an occasion. Our new atmosphere suits that.”
All the Sizzle and the Steak
This is the Brown Derby after all, and George’s conversation turns to steak.
One showstopper is the massive 50-ounce Tomahawk, which fills the platter and is served simply with garlic, rosemary and a one-pound lobster tail.
“We have specials that make us the go-to for any night of the week,” he says. “And save room for dessert. People rave about the German chocolate cake, crème brûlée and carrot cake.”
Fall brings another reason to linger, seasonal cocktails crafted by the wildly inventive bar staff. Don’t miss Autumn Sangria, a robust twist on the classic drink. Turns out, it’s not just for summer anymore. Enjoy spicy, warming layers of flavors of apple, cinnamon, citrus, wine, vodka and brandy.
For George, the renovation is about more than making things look new. It’s about giving folks more reasons to come here and come more often.
“I invite anyone to stop in and take a tour,” he says. “Our surroundings have entered a new era and we’re already booking holiday parties and small weddings for 2027.”
