Stronger trees start now

Protect what matters this spring. Prune. Prevent. Preserve. After months of dormancy, trees are waking up—and what happens in the next few weeks can determine how they grow, how safely they weather spring storms and how well they withstand summer heat.

That’s why Titan Arbor Care owners—ISA-certified arborists Jay Dalton, Jeremy Rolf and Tyler Honsaker—center their spring work on precision pruning, strategic removals and proactive plant health care, helping property owners across Northeast Ohio address risks early and strengthen trees before stress sets in.

“We approach every property as arborists first,” Jay emphasizes. “Every recommendation begins with the health and structure of the tree. When we make the right call for the tree, it serves the property owner in the long run.”

Pruning now is a smart call—and it can prevent a rude awakening later. It’s only a matter of time before a spring storm tests what winter left behind.

Addressing weak limbs and structural issues early reduces risk to people and property. Don’t throw caution to the wind. Address it now, before a spring storm decides for you.

“Early spring is one of the best times to prune,” Jay notes. “The tree’s coming out of dormancy, and you can shape it properly before new growth takes off. It’s also the right time to remove dead or compromised limbs before they become a bigger problem.”

As trees break dormancy, strategic cuts encourage healthy new growth, improve structure and reduce long-term risk. Crossing branches, deadwood and crowded canopies can all be addressed before the growing season picks up momentum.

Pruning in spring also helps Titan’s arborists assess overall condition. As foliage fills in, patterns in growth, color and density reveal what’s happening below the surface.

“We look at the whole tree,” Jay says. “From the roots to the canopy. We’re looking at weight distribution, crossing branches, deadwood, clearance from homes—all of it. Good pruning isn’t cosmetic. It’s preventative.”

Sometimes pruning isn’t enough. Not every tree can—or should—be saved.

Spring is also the right time to address trees that wintered poorly. Disease, decay, root instability or proximity to structures sometimes make removal the safest option.

Leaning trunks, split scaffold limbs, frost cracks and hanging branches pose greater risk as warm weather returns and storms build.

Titan handles complete removals, including stump grinding, debris hauling and site restoration, leaving the property clean, regraded and ready for what comes next.

The work doesn’t stop at the canopy.

Forestry mowing—sometimes called forestry mulching—allows Titan’s crews to cut and grind woody material into mulch that stays right where it falls, clearing unwanted growth while supporting the soil. It’s a controlled way to reclaim overgrown areas without disturbing root systems, whether a client wants to open up a wooded lot, create walking trails or simply make a space feel usable again.

Clearing the understory gives the trees room to grow the way they’re supposed to—and restores balance to the landscape.

What you can’t see is often what matters most. Titan’s Plant Health Care (PHC) program takes a proactive approach—getting ahead of tree health problems before they become visible.

In Northeast Ohio, heavy clay soils and chronic drainage issues create root stress that shows up slowly over time. Titan’s arborists use deep root feeding, biostimulants and targeted soil treatments to support tree health at the root zone before decline sets in.

“We want to help clients get ahead of the issues instead of chasing them,” Jay says. “A tree that gets the right care in spring is in a much better position to handle summer heat, drought and pest pressure.”

PHC services also include monitoring for disease, insect activity and early signs of decline. Yellowing leaves, thinning canopies and stunted new growth can all signal trouble that, when caught early, is far easier and less costly to address.

In addition to residential properties, Titan serves commercial and municipal clients throughout Northeast Ohio, including recent work for Strongsville.

Whether pruning for structure, managing mature trees or restoring a landscape after removal, the goal remains the same: improve safety, usability and long-term health.

“At the end of the day, people just want their property to feel manageable,” Jay reflects. “We help them get it back to that point.”

Titan offers a full range of services—from diagnostics and disease treatment to removal, stump grinding and forestry mowing. Annual and biannual pruning plans are also available, ensuring trees get the care they need throughout the year—before stress sets in.

“Talk to us about our pruning plan,” Jay invites. “We can identify what needs to be done and put a schedule together.”

There’s no time like the present.
