At Horizon Northridge Senior Living, residents are engaged, happy, and, well ... spoiled.

Like most of the residents at Horizon Northridge, Judy Metz and Carol Bridges are talkers. Any given day walking through the door, you’ll likely find them in a group of residents gathered in the inviting living room reception area.
Before moving here, they both looked around at other independent living places in the area and agree this is the only one that made them feel like home.
“As soon as I came here, people welcomed me,” says Judy. “It just felt warm and homey.”
Approachable New Ownership
That genuine, unmistakably personal feeling has only grown stronger since new ownership came on the scene this spring.
“Whenever the owner, Judah Kutner, comes, he mingles and talks to everyonmaking sure they’re happy,” says Carol. “He’s approachable. It’s a nice feeling to be appreciated, seen and heard. If someone is new, he’ll go up to them and introduce himself and find out how they’re doing. That means a lot.”
The ladies say the personal “like family” touch has rippled through the community, from management to maintenance to daily life. Executive Director Jenn Hembree is known for her attentiveness, often personally checking in on residents and stepping in when they need help with transportation.
The day I visit the building for this story interview, a beautiful bouquet of flowers still wrapped in plastic sits on Jenn’s desk. Judy and Carol ask who they are from, saying they’re “ready to start a rumor.” Turns out Jenn wanted to surprise a resident’s daughter who has been going through a tough time.
Independence Meets Connection
Life at Horizon Northridge is designed to strike the perfect balance between independence and connection. There are 64 spacious one- and two-bedroom apartments with full kitchens, along with the option of garage parking. The two-story building offers a quiet, serene setting, while still fostering a vibrant sense of community.
“I love my apartment,” says Judy. “It’s cozy, comfortable and I can open my windows and enjoy.”
Outside, there’s always something to do. From bingo and cornhole to crafts, movie nights, fitness classes and chair yoga, the full activity calendar keep residents engaged. On nice evenings, they like to gather and enjoy each other’s company on the beautiful brick fenced-in patio, with lush landscaping, statues and a gazebo.
Both ladies say they were living in their homes alone, after their husbands had passed, and that it felt like too much to maintain.
“I also felt lonely,” says Carol. “Here, I’m surrounded by people who feel like family. And since I have so many family members living nearby, it’s nice that they love to visit here.”
Affordability is another advantage, they say. Compared to other communities that can cost significantly more, Horizon Northridge is both practical and appealing.
“Some places can cost twice as much and they don’t offer what we have here,” says Judy. “They spoil us and we love it!”

Inside Chef Zack’s Kitchen
Seasoned and award-winning Chef Zack Grant has more than 30 years of experience and a passion for creating dishes that bring comfort, connection and a little excitement to the table.
“I want residents to look forward to meals every day,” he says. “And when I see smiles at the end of the meal, that’s everything.
Since joining the community in January, Chef Zack has transformed dining into one of Horizon’s standout features. His colorful background includes training in international cuisine at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He brings presentation skills and heart to every plate.
What also sets him apart is his commitment to freshness.
“I shop two to three times a week,” he says. “Local farms with fresh, seasonally inspired ingredients make for from-scratch dishes the residents love. Nothing comes from a box. I’m peeling all the potatoes myself.”
Residents can taste the difference in specialties like cornbread-stuffed pork loin, fried chicken with mashed potatoes and his ever-popular mac and cheese. There are also globally conscious favorites like chicken paprikash, bourbon chicken and themed pizza and pasta days.
Each night features a full, restaurant-style dining experience, complete with soup or salad, plated entrée and dessert. Think luscious cheesecake with blueberry topping, hand-scooped ice cream, sundaes and banana splits made to order.
“Each day we offer people a nice continental breakfast spread, then choices for dinner,” he says.
Just as important as flavor is flexibility. Residents can choose between entrée options, swap proteins or request alternatives tailored to their needs.
Chef Zack keeps an eye on nutrition, offering lighter, leaner options while maintaining the rich flavors residents love.
“It’s all about balance,” he adds. “Healthy can still taste amazing.”
