Although Ross Pavlik spent a good part of his childhood hanging out at Brookway Hearing Center in Strongsville—his father Robert’s business—working as a hearing specialist wasn’t in his career plans.
But today, Ross and Robert work side by side helping to restore hearing to Brookway’s clients.
“Because of our business growth I asked Ross to come on to work in the office for a month,” Robert recalls. “Then he stayed another month. It was going so well that we started to talk about getting him licensed [as a hearing aid specialist].” Ross grew up around the business, so it was a natural fit to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Ross began studying and earned his licensed just 16 months later, in April 2024. He is now working toward his board certification, which requires three years of industry experience.
Having settled into his new position, Ross says he enjoys serving the Strongsville community where he was born and raised.
“I was the captain of the Strongsville High School hockey team in my senior year, and I also played lacrosse, soccer and was in the band,” he says. “Working here at Brookway is an opportunity to give back to the people who helped me to develop into the person I am. I feel a special responsibility to provide the best service I can because I’m working with people who I see around town every day.”
Ross’s community involvement includes serving as president of Strongsville Toastmasters, an international organization dedicated to helping members improve their public speaking and leadership skills. He also is actively engaged in the Strongsville Men’s Hockey League.
Robert describes Brookway as a “fusion of the latest technology in hearing instruments with the highest quality service in the business. That’s been my mission since I started the business, and now Ross is continuing that philosophy as the next generation, joining Hearing Aid Specialist Patty Spencer, who has been with us forever, and Patient Care Coordinators Lauren Todorovich and Linda Pilhartz.”
Looking to provide the best available hearing and diagnostic technology, Brookway recently invested in 3D scanning equipment that accurately maps customers’ ears to create custom molds for hearing aids.
“In the past, we had to take physical molds of the ear—which can be uncomfortable for some people—and send them off to manufacturers,” Robert says. “We’re now able to send digital files instantaneously to different manufacturers, not only creating a perfect fit, but also making the process faster and more efficient. Our goal is to provide the very best outcomes that improve our clients’ lives through better hearing.”
Other new technology allows Brookway to electronically simulate a client’s specific hearing environment and create more accurate solutions.
“It’s common for people to have trouble hearing in a distracting environment like a noisy restaurant,” Robert explains. “In our symposium room, we sit a client down and simulate environments like restaurant chatter. We use artificial intelligence to monitor what sound levels and directions they are having problems with and we can adjust their hearing aids accordingly. We can measure and analyze sounds just as people hear them coming out of the hearing aid. All these new technologies help us to ensure we are giving our clients the best outcomes possible.”
