Decades of design excellence

Opened in 1956, expanded to eight locations, and an area leader in kitchen and bath design. This is Active Kitchen & Bath Design Center.

Do, you want to renovate your kitchen or bath and aren’t sure where to start? Active Kitchen & Bath Design Center’s new showroom in Avon Lake is loaded with options for everything from sinks, faucets and fixtures to flooring, tile, cabinetry and more.

A family-owned business since 1956, Active Kitchen & Bath now has eight locations, including three showrooms throughout Northeast Ohio.

“We started in Willoughby and today my two brothers and I are third-generation owners,” director of sales and marketing and co-owner Bryce Barber says. “We combine our vast product knowledge and expertise in design to help you achieve the spaces of your dreams, whether you’re building or renovating.”

Showroom Manager Debbie Armstrong has been with Active Kitchen & Bath for 47 years. Starting out in inventory, Debbie moved to cashier, then to the original showroom floor in Painesville, and today she’s showroom manager in Avon Lake.

“Customers’ children and even grandchildren come in now,” Debbie says. “It’s wonderful to be a part of helping generations of families achieve their dream homes.”

Naomi Kropp and Diane Jackson are kitchen and bath designers at Active Kitchen & Bath and are ready to help with what can be an overwhelming undertaking for many.

“We do a lot of listening, then help you narrow down the choices and streamline the process so you can be confident you’ve made the right decisions for your home and family,” Diane says.

As a father of six, Bryce knows a thing or two about how a family navigates the kitchen and bathrooms in a home.

“We can help no matter what you’re working with in terms of family needs, space configurations, aesthetics and finances,” Bryce says. “Everyone’s project is different. We listen to your story and find the right solution.”

The Active Kitchen & Bath Process

Once you enter Active Kitchen & Bath Design Center, you’re greeted by a member of the team and invited to stroll through the showroom to take it all in.

“We built this showroom to be welcoming, not overwhelming,” Bryce says. “There’s so much product to see but it’s presented in small vignettes in an organized setting. Take your time and enjoy your experience.”

“We’re just as interested in helping you find a simple faucet, toilet or tub as we are helping to design a total kitchen or bath remodel complete with flooring, cabinetry and fixtures,” Diane says. “Whatever your goals are, we’ll get you there.”

For larger projects, Active Kitchen & Bath designers can come to your home, take measurements and develop a planning guide to organize your project.

“We’ll even recommend one of our preferred contractors if you don’t already have one,” Diane says. “Either way, we keep in touch with contractors to keep the job moving. From design to completion, we’re a one-stop shopping experience.”

Kitchen and Bath Trends

“Trends come and go, but we’re still seeing lots of gold fixtures, wood cabinets are back, and colors are moving away from grays and blues toward warmer tones like greens and dark blues,” Naomi says. “But what you love is most important to us.”

For bathrooms, Diane and Naomi see lots of mixed metals, knurled hardware, metal cabinet finishes, wet rooms, corner tubs and oversized walk-in showers.

“We work with a wide-range of homeowners who are renovating their existing homes instead of downsizing,” Diane says. “Our empty nester clients are converting tubs to walk-in showers, and adding handheld shower fixtures, grab bars and non-slip flooring options. And don’t worry, we’ll make it beautiful and functional for you today and in the future.”

Why Active Kitchen & Bath Design Center

There’s something about a family-owned-and-operated local business that only has its customers to answer to and a reputation that depends on the customer’s complete satisfaction. That’s Active Kitchen & Bath, and that’s why Bryce, his brothers and their staff of dedicated employees work hard to earn your support.

Bryce says, “We consider it a privilege to offer the support, guidance, knowledge and expertise you won’t find at the big-box stores. Stop in at our new location and let’s get started on your next project.”
