Life moves better when you do
No limits, better movement, improved quality of life. This is why we stretch.

F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” We’ll probably never know if that new start included an assisted stretching routine, but the stretching professionals at StretchLab Hudson like to think so.
“Every season is a great season to start stretching but fall presents many reasons to get started, for both adults and kids,” says StretchLab Hudson manager Kim Newhouse. “Summer activities are winding down, and many clients want to hold on to the flexibility, mobility and strength they gained through summer activities to survive the more sedentary months ahead.”
Kim says StretchLab also sees more young athletes looking for an edge in a particular sport. Depending on the sport, there are different needs and different areas of the body that are uniquely stressed. At StretchLab, no matter your age or goals, your stretches are built around achieving those goals, then setting new ones.
StretchLab offers a one-on-one assisted stretch administered by a Flexologist, a professional who has undergone extensive training through StretchLab’s three-tiered certification process, including online coursework, in-person workshops and 20-plus practice hours administering StretchLab’s signature 26 stretches.
“Every Flexologist has a background in a related field, such as exercise science, kinesiology, massage therapy, yoga or personal training,” says Kim. “The Flexologists bring all their past training to the table and that usually includes experience in different sports and activities. They know what their clients’ particular needs are and what muscle groups to focus on for the best results.”
Your initial StretchLab stretch beings with a simple MAPS assessment that determines mobility, activation, posture and symmetry to ensure your Flexologist focuses on the right muscle groups, and you get the most out of your session. Before that first stretch, a StretchLab staff member will reach out to you to ask about goals, lifestyle, past injuries and other helpful information.
StretchLab Flexologists use a stretching technique called proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, which uses resistance to target the body’s tissues and ligaments and improve muscle elasticity. You are never in pain and are always in control of your stretch.
“We waste no time getting started as soon as you come in for that first stretch,” says Kim. “This is a personal, hands-on experience and no one stretch is the same. Your Flexologist is in constant contact with you, guiding you through each stretch and communicating with you.”
It’s that hands-on approach that sets StretchLab apart. We all know we should probably be stretching. It’s the assisted stretching your Flexologist offers that allows you to relax and experience the stretch without worrying about hurting yourself.
With young athletes, every sport places particular demands on the body. And every sport, unfortunately, comes with its own common injuries. Whether it’s soccer, football, cross country, golf, tennis, lacrosse, hockey, volleyball, gymnastics or just running around on the playground, a stretching routine will help increase performance and decrease the likelihood of those injuries.
“We see many kids who are active in multiple sports come in struggling with their performance and wanting to improve and get to the next level,” says Kim. “Others have suffered injuries and are recovering or trying to avoid an injury. No matter where you are in your sports performance journey, stretching will help.”
For older clients, fall is the time of year they’re back in the car shuttling the kids around to their events, maybe spending longer hours confined in the office, less time outdoors, and more time on the couch.
“No matter what we’re doing, most of our typical daily activities involve reaching, standing, sitting and bending,” says Kim. “A consistent stretching routine helps everyone do these things more easily, without pain or risk of injury. Especially for elderly clients, stretching builds the strength and the flexibility required to increase mobility. Stretching gives them the confidence to stay independent in their own homes longer.”
Regardless of age, fitness level or physical limitations, a StretchLab Flexologist targets your specific goals to improve your performance in your sport, leisure activities and daily life—whatever that means for you.
