More than senior health care

Laurie Delgado, Spry Senior • January 23, 2025

In addition to offering top medical expertise for seniors, Spry Senior goes above and beyond to ensure overall wellness is a priority.

At Spry Senior, caregivers spend more time with patients who are more involved in their own care.

Marita Ross loved her previous doctor but was frustrated by how long it took to get an appointment. After reading about Spry Senior in Mimi Magazine, she decided to give it a try.

She met with Denise Mohar, APRN-CNP, the nurse practitioner at the Strongsville location, and knew she’d made the right decision.

“Denise is the bomb,” Marita says. “She looks at the whole person. Plus, she’s such a cheerleader.”

Marita also appreciates that she can get in quickly when needed.

“When I’m sick, I can get an appointment right away—typically the same day,” she says.

And while Marita doesn’t like exercising, she doesn’t mind Spry Senior’s community fitness classes.

“It motivates me because I love seeing everyone,” she shares. “What I’m doing is good for my body and my brain.”

The classes offered at Spry Senior were a draw for Pat Florio, too. She attends cardio drumming and chair yoga regularly. And after getting to know the staff, she decided to become a patient of Denise’s, too.

“Denise is friendly and never makes me feel rushed,” Pat says. “When she sees me there at class, she greets me and makes sure I’m staying up on my care.”

Pat’s also a fan of Clinical Associate Jacob Cunningham, who draws her blood during visits. “I’m always glad when I see him and Denise walk through the door,” she says.

She’s not the only one.

“I really like Denise. She is straightforward and friendly,” Lynn Koslo says. “She nudges me along and makes sure she sees me more than just once a year.”

Lynn liked that Spry Senior was more than just a doctor’s office.

“I found the whole concept appealing,” she says. “I wanted whole wellness, not just someone for the aches and pains.”

Now she comes three times a week for easy tai chi, chair yoga and cardio drumming, and really enjoys the community, including the Spry Senior staff.

“They’re helpful, even when it’s beyond their realm,” she says. “I had a friend visiting who had forgotten to bring her diabetes medication. It wasn’t an emergency, but I went to Spry Senior for advice and they helped immediately.”

Linda Massey has experienced that “above and beyond” herself—and it’s made a huge difference in her life.

When Health and Wellness Benefits Coordinator Lisa Sandor learned that Linda needed a new heating and cooling unit, she jumped into action.

“Lisa helped me apply for a new furnace and air conditioner through a City of Cleveland program—and I got it,” says Linda.

She also helped her apply to MetroHealth for assistance with medical bills.

“I’m not afraid to go to the doctor anymore because I have support paying for expenses,” Linda shares. “Whenever I have paperwork I don’t understand, Lisa helps me.”

Lisa helps patients address factors like housing, food, finances and more that could negatively impact overall well-being.

Linda started seeing Spry Senior’s Jeffrey Rosenberg, MD, after her previous doctor retired.

“Dr. Rosenberg is very approachable,” she says. “He gives me time to think and ask questions so I can make choices.”

She also appreciates his thoroughness. When Linda first came to him, she’d already had several kidney stone issues. He did blood work and realized she was in Stage 4 kidney failure.

“Because he identified that, I was able to avoid dialysis,” Linda explains. “I got the right medications and the right specialists, and I very much appreciate that.”
