Live edge furniture craftsmen

The relocation of Unique Live Edge Tables to Chesterland represents a fresh opportunity for people from across the area to claim their own natural wood piece and bring it home.

John Fisher knows wood. He and his brother Marvin have grown up around it at the family business, Fisher Logging in Burton. Along with land clearing, tree cutting, maintenance and more, Fisher Logging offers customization of live edge slabs for your next home rejuvenation.

“When Marvin and I took over the business in 2019, we started custom-building live edge tables and furniture,” says John.

When the possibility to purchase Unique Live Edge Tables in Mentor was presented, John and Marvin jumped at the opportunity and have relocated the store to Chesterland. This new showroom gives them the space to showcase handcrafted tables of every size along with a variety of furnishings, including beds, desks, bar tops, bookcases and shelving, lighting fixtures, charcuterie boards and pet beds, along with raw slabs in a variety of sizes.

“I was purchasing slabs from John for several years,” Unique Live Edge Tables’ previous owner and craftsman Bruce Hanusosky says. “He and Marvin are carrying on the legacy of their own family’s business and have a great deal of knowledge and talent in creating live edge furniture. This was a natural fit for them and for me. I know Unique Live Edge is in great hands.”

John and Marvin are loggers by trade and artisans at heart, transforming rare live-edge wood into striking, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces. They plan to showcase their craftsmanship through extraordinary works created entirely by hand from some of nature’s most unique finds.

“It all starts in the woods for us,” John says. “Dad started Fisher Logging in the late 1980s, and we started learning about trees and logging skills as kids. In 2019, we took over, and, along with craftsman Aiden Miller, started making tables. The purchase of Unique Live Edge allows us to further expand this aspect of our business.”

John and Marvin are excited to share the popular style that merges natural beauty with functional craftsmanship and fits with any design style.

“Live edge has grown in popularity for its aesthetic, natural beauty and the fact that no two pieces are ever the same,” John says. “Different finishes or table leg styles allow live edge to fit seamlessly into your home, whether your style is traditional, modern farmhouse, rustic cottage or contemporary. Live edge also promotes sustainability and provides a highly durable family heirloom to last for generations.”

The beauty of live edge begins with the tree. Unique Live Edge offers pieces in walnut, maple, hickory, cherry, white oak and even some rare varieties when available. All woods are 100% kiln-dried, a critical step to avoid cracking and splitting of the finished piece.

“Bring us a picture or just an idea and we’ll work together to create just what you’re looking for,” John says. “From the slab to the finish, we walk you through the process, so you know just what to expect. We can also advise you on your own project.”

Unique Live Edge Tables is bridging the gap between modern living and the rhythms of nature.
