Do this not that

The Neighborhood Experts at Platinum Real Estate have compiled a list of musts to consider when selling your home.

People thinking about selling their home often ask the pros at Platinum Real Estate for advice on how to manage a fast and profitable sale.

Over the last 35 years in real estate, my husband Mark and I have dealt with everything you could possibly imagine, responded to wild market fluctuations, and forged a dynamic and seasoned team of go-getters. People thinking about selling their home often ask me for advice on how to manage a fast and profitable sale.

Here’s my Top 5 list of what not to do when selling a home:

  1. Don’t overprice it. When you ask too much, your home will sit on the market longer and usually ends up selling for less than if it was priced right in the first place.
  2. Don’t skip routine repairs and maintenance.  Even little issues like a leaky faucet or running toilet are big turnoffs to buyers. If they detect one small thing, they assume the big items are tainted, too. They also lead buyers to throw these repairs into their negotiations, which ends up costing you more in the end.
  3. Don’t ignore the importance of curb appeal. First impressions are critical in buyers’ minds. Keep your yard and walkways pristine, well manicured and inviting.
  4. Don’t leave too much furniture, clutter or too many family photos around. Buyers need a fresh slate to imagine themselves living in the home. We have just partnered with an organization that will come to your home and remove furniture for free to donate to those in need in Lake County.
  5. Don’t hire a friend or someone who just earned their real estate license unless they are mentored by a successful team. Your house is your biggest asset, and its value should be maximized by someone with experience and a proven track record in the field. You want someone who will negotiate the highest dollar for your home.
