Is your body ready to change?

Mary Malik • January 24, 2025

StretchLab Hudson’s professional Flexologists can help prepare your body for dramatic change, including building muscle, enhancing flexibility and improving posture.

New Year’s resolutions often fail because we are ready to change, but our bodies are not. StretchLab Hudson can help you build muscle, prevent injury, and improve flexibility and joint function.

Here we go again—another year, another resolution. Are you sticking with it, or are you among the majority who have given up already? If the latter, it might not be your fault. Sometimes, increases in exercise and activity levels are difficult because, physically, our bodies just aren’t ready for the change.

We know we should do stretching, but we don’t because we aren’t sure how. Then, when we work out at the gym, play golf, go for a run or even get on the floor to play with the kids or grandkids, we struggle or even suffer injury. So what’s the problem?

“Stretching is for everybody and every body,” StretchLab Hudson owner Bill Shepard says. “Don’t beat yourself up about aches and pains and lack of mobility. We’re all born with supple, flexible bones and muscles, but that begins to change around age 10. Muscle tissue loses flexibility as we age, and we’re all familiar with the results. Stretching keeps us flexible and mobile, prevents injury and offers many more benefits you might not be aware of.”

Professional, Trained Flexologists

Not all stretching is the same or even safe. At StretchLab, you’ll be stretched by a trained expert, a Flexologist, who guides you through a series of StretchLab’s 26 signature stretches according to your specific needs and goals.

“Before your first stretch session here, a Flexologist will reach out to you about your goals, lifestyle, past injuries and other information,” general manager Kim Newhouse says. “Our Flexologists are trained experts with a background in fitness that may include bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a related field, along with a range of certifications in yoga, personal training and more. In addition to fitness experience, our Flexologists complete an extensive, three-tiered certification process that makes them uniquely qualified to determine a program appropriate for you that will help you reach your goals.”

Flexologists take part in 60-plus hours of in-person workshops and online training and complete 20-plus practice hours administering Stretch Lab’s 26 stretches. Continuing education courses train them to customize and fine-tune stretch sessions.

“Your first stretch begins with a simple MAPS assessment to determine Mobility, Activation, Posture and Symmetry and provide us with information we need to ensure that you get the most out of your session,” Kim says. “We recommend a 50-minute, 26-stretch initial session targeting every muscle group, and future sessions are personalized to your specific needs.”

Stretching Is for Everyone

StretchLab members of all ages and physical abilities have discovered the life-changing benefits of stretching.

“We’re providing everyone from athletes of all ages to post-rehab surgical clients and anyone who wants to feel better overall with the power to change their daily lives,” area manager Jenna Head says. “No matter who you are or what you’re doing, stretching improves performance and prevents injury. That’s what makes it so satisfying for us.”

And extremely satisfying for StretchLab clients. Regular stretching builds muscle, keeps muscles flexible and improves joint function—all factors in injury prevention.

“And if you’re older and are looking for better posture, enhanced circulation, stress relief and even improved mental clarity, stretching can help,” Kim says. “Increased blood flow to your brain and muscles improves performance in daily tasks and activities and alleviates muscle tension and general discomfort.”

The pandemic changed many things, including allowing people to work from home, which, in many cases, affected posture. Many people experienced neck, shoulder, and back pain sitting in awkward positions on soft surfaces at home. Stretching alleviates that tension, improves posture, and relieves chronic pain.

Consistency Is Key

Consistency is key when it comes to stretching, and that’s where your Flexologist’s knowledge and training come in.

“You’ll get the most out of a stretch here, then we educate you so you can and will continue stretching at home,” Kim says. “Members have access to our app that offers additional stretches and information on how to build on the progress you make here.”

Stretch sessions at StretchLab may also include massage therapies to aid recovery and relieve muscle tension. Members receive one free Normatec compression therapy session per month.
