Your deck deserves better!

Skipping deck maintenance now could mean a full replacement later. Chagrin Home Improvements makes it easy to protect your investment.

Avoiding the cost of repairs or a brand-new deck can be as simple as sweeping, rinsing and calling Chagrin Home Improvements for professional cleaning and staining.

Have you neglected your deck for the past few years, always putting deck maintenance on the bottom of your to-do list? There’s still time to hand the job over to the professionals at Chagrin Home Improvements. Now in its 12th year as the local deck maintenance experts, the crew has perfected its process and developed a system that will bring your deck back to life and keep it that way for the next few years.

“We’re not in the deck-building business,” owner Joe Jacobs says. “It does us no good to tell you your deck is a lost cause, and you need a new one. Although some decks are irreparable, we’re in the business of getting your deck cleaned, stained and back in shape, saving you a bigger investment down the road.”

Whether you spend little time on your deck, or you’re out there every chance you get, decks take a beating and, if not properly cared for, can cause problems you may not have thought about, not to mention become an eyesore and negatively affect the resale of your home.

“You might be thinking, ‘We don’t really use the deck, so I don’t think it needs to be cleaned or stained,’” Joe says. “Actually, the opposite is more accurate. A neglected deck suffers the same weather fluctuations and other hazards whether you use it or not. And if you’re not using it, you’re probably not cleaning it off regularly or giving it any of the attention it needs. That’s why we’re here. So, either way, you don’t have to think about it.”

Clean It or Lose It

Joe says that basic maintenance like rinsing off spills, leaves, sticks, and dirt and mold buildup in between a professional cleaning and staining every couple of years will greatly extend the life of your deck.

“For most families in Northeast Ohio, the deck is additional living space in the outdoor months,” Joe says. “If you don’t properly care for it, damage can happen very quickly. We often hear customers say, ‘it looked fine last year. I don’t know what happened.’ The damage can sneak up on you if you’re not paying attention.”

The Process

Chagrin Home Improvements offers a process and attention to detail it has perfected over the years and here’s how it goes.

  • Call Chagrin Home Improvements. A crew member will visit your home, assess the condition of your deck, take photos and get back to you with a written quote for approval.
  • The two-day process begins with minor repairs like securing loose or raised screws and nails and replacing small, rotted wood pieces for a smoother, safer surface.
  • The thorough but delicate cleaning process rids the deck surface of dirt and mold buildup without damaging the wood. Joe says a well-meaning DIY power washing often results in small cracks in the wood that invite moisture and dirt to settle in. Leave this to the professionals.
  • Finally, your like-new deck is stained and sealed with the quality stain of your choice.

“Our crew is made up of family and friends, never seasonal hires, and all are experts at what they do,” Joe says. “Whether you live on your deck or rarely get out there, take comfort in knowing Chagrin Home Improvements is taking good care of it for you.”
