If you live near a wooded area, a park or a golf course, you’ve probably experienced deer damage to your landscaping plants. This is especially true in the Bay Village/Rocky River area, where there is a thousand acres of parks.

Deer are creatures of habit, and if you want to guarantee you will never see one in your yard again, your best bet is to move to Antarctica.

However, if living in the frozen hinterlands is not your ideal lifestyle, the next best option is to contact En Garde Deer Defense. This deer deterrent spray service delivers dramatic results for homeowners looking to protect their valuable trees, flowers, shrubs, and other expensive flora, allowing families to enjoy the spring and summer in a beautiful yard.

Now, wait. Before you say you’ve tried everything and nothing works, know that En Garde is Northeast Ohio’s top-rated deer deterrent service with 319 Google reviews and an impressive 4.9-star average.

“Most homeowners who call us have already tried so many other options,” says company founder Jeff Arbo. “These include off-the-shelf sprays at big-box home improvement stores, and countless homemade concoctions they found online, but nothing works. So when we show up and the deer damage is dramatically reduced, people are amazed. This is why we have all those five-star reviews.”

Why It Works

Jeff started En Garde Deer Defense eight years ago due to his own frustrations with deer damage. So why does his proprietary deer spray work when others don’t? That’s because his formula cannot be found online or in stores. Due to the nature of the ingredients, it cannot be stored on a shelf, but it’s those ingredients that make it so effective.

“We mix our spray fresh every morning,” Jeff explains. “That’s time-consuming, but that’s what makes it work. Our spray is safe, natural, effective and weather-resistant. It’s also transparent and virtually odorless to humans.”

The goal of the spray is to teach area deer that the plants in your yard are unpleasant and encourage them to dine elsewhere. And the sooner you get started, the better.

“By starting in the early spring, we train deer right away that your yard is off limits,” Jeff says. “If we wait until later in the summer when damage has already occurred, it is more difficult for deer to break the grazing habits they’ve already established. Once they discover nutritious food on your property, they put you on their regular path.”

“Unfortunately, deer love to eat many of the same plant species we find beauty in Jeff says. Plants vulnerable in summer include tulips, daylilies, hostas, hydrangeas, roses, and geraniums. Plants vulnerable in winter include arborvitae, rhododendrons, azaleas, yews, and euonymus.”

The spray’s unique formula and an early start to the service are not the only reasons for the effectiveness of En Garde’s service. Another is proper application.

The Bay Village/Rocky River area is home to a thousand acres of parks. That means deer are abundant—and so is damage to expensive landscaping plants, trees and shrubs. Vulnerable plants include tulips, daylilies, hostas, hydrangeas, roses, geraniums and a lot more.

En Garde’s spray technicians undergo a seriously comprehensive training program, and new employees also participate in a four- to six-week, hands-on, in-the-field apprenticeship program with a trained technician before being allowed to work alone.

Highly Trained Technicians

En Garde’s spray technicians undergo a seriously comprehensive training program, including an online test in which each tech must identify 90+ different species of plants and declare whether they are vulnerable to deer. New employees also undergo a four- to six-week, hands-on, in-the-field apprenticeship with a trained technician before being allowed to work alone.

Training also includes a final test to achieve certification. “The test includes questions about plants, deer behavior, spraying techniques, and questions our clients may have,” Jeff says.

Get Started with a Free Trial

Jeff is so confident in his service he gives every homeowner a free trial. That means your first spray costs you nothing and there is no obligation to continue. That said, once customers see that the service really works, most property owners sign up for ongoing service, which typically costs $90 per application. But, depending on the size of your property and the number of vulnerable plants, the minimum cost could be $60 per application.

Jeff’s crews can handle a limited number of free trials during the spring—the busiest part of the season—so it’s a good idea to schedule your own free trial as soon as possible.

En Garde Deer Defense serves all of Northeast Ohio. To schedule your free trial, call 440-447-0022, or fill out a form online at EGDeerDefense.com.
