A s cooler weather arrives in Northeast Ohio, so do seasonal illnesses like colds and the flu. Getting sick is never convenient when you have a job to do, errands to run, or simply want to relax. Thankfully, getting care can be.

University Hospitals provides same-day sick care with multiple options to fit your needs. Whether you prefer an in-person or virtual visit, it’s easy to get treated quickly. Plus, an integrated system gives your provider instant access to your medical records, ensuring personalized and seamless treatment.

“We know how busy life is, and getting sick shouldn’t mean a major disruption to your schedule,” says Dr. Brian Zack, University Hospitals Digital Health Medical Director. “Our priority is to ensure patients get timely care for acute illnesses exactly when and where they need it, with options that fit their lifestyle.”

At UH, you can get care the same day you start feeling sick. Your provider can review your past health records to give you the best treatment.

“Our goal is to meet patients where they are, providing convenient options so they don’t have to delay care for minor illnesses,” says Dr. Zack.

Patients with serious issues like chest pain, severe bleeding or trouble breathing should skip virtual or urgent care and head to the closest emergency room.

Your Virtual Sick-Care Solution

When you feel the first signs of a cold coming, like nasal congestion, a runny nose or a sore throat, you don’t have to put off getting care. For non-emergency illnesses, Virtual Care is a fast solution for quick treatment.

“A virtual appointment is similar to an in-person visit,” says Dr. Brian Zack. “When you log in, the healthcare provider will review your chart, medications and medical history, ask specific questions about your symptoms, and then perform an exam on the computer that can look at your throat, skin, breathing and general demeanor. Then, the provider will recommend a treatment plan, and, if needed, can prescribe medication that will provide symptomatic relief.”

If you have these common symptoms, which can be mistaken for seasonal allergies, start a virtual care appointment to get quick assessment and (if appropriate) early treatment:

• Nasal congestion

• Runny nose

• Sneezing

• Headache

• Sore throat

• Coughing
