Is it really possible to add 10-15 years of life to your roof? Roof Maxx of Wadsworth shares the answer.

Backyard barbecues, ice cream trucks, fruit-filled bevvies, sunsets and spontaneity make summertime worth the wait. But while you’re soaking up the sunshine, your roof is soaking up relentless UV exposure, damaging high temperatures, humidity and fierce storms. With the Super El Nino weather pattern predicted to wreak havoc soon, this summer is poised to become one of the most damaging in decades.

If your roof is relatively new and you think you’re fine, you might want to think again. Even newer shingles tend to dry out, lose their flexibility and begin shedding their protective granules.

Luckily, Nathan Gray, owner of Roof Maxx of Wadsworth, offers a regenerative technology that revitalizes shingles and extends their life while costing a fraction of roof replacement.

“At its core, asphalt roofing relies on oils to stay flexible, durable and good looking,” says Nathan, who has been running the local service company the past three years. “I was drawn to the practical science behind this next-level technology of applying chemicals that turn back the clock on shingles that are around 10-15 years old. For me, it’s especially rewarding to show homeowners how beautiful their roofs can look again, to bring them back to life instead of having to replace them prematurely.”

Plant-Based Formulas

While the research and data behind the plant-based formula Nathan uses is complicated, he explains that soy methyl ester emulsion was discovered at The Ohio State University about 10 years ago. The spray-on oil’s properties mimic the original petrochemical oils used in asphalt shingles when they were manufactured and restores the critical oils lost due to weathering and age.

“Micro-beads soak into the material to rehydrate and prevent future breaking and cracking,” he adds. “Shingles look like new and are fortified. Plus, since the product is natural, it’s good for the environment and safe for people and pets.”

How the Treatment Works

Nathan’s process is straightforward and simple. Each project begins with a comprehensive inspection, where he documents the roof’s condition with photos and reviews every detail with the homeowner. Not every roof is a candidate for restoration, and he is clear about that upfront, whether it’s too new or too far gone.

Before he begins the application, he performs any necessary minor repairs, then gently cleans the shingles using a bleach-free solution to remove buildup. Finally, the treatment is applied using specialized equipment that Nathan is trained and certified to operate.

“Unlike a full roof replacement, which can take days and involve crews, the rejuvenation process is usually completed by me in a few hours,” he adds. “I’m the only person homeowners will work with from beginning to end, and they seem to appreciate the time I take with them to make sure they understand what’s happening.”

What they also appreciate is the savings. A Roof Maxx treatment costs around 80% less than a roof replacement and is guaranteed for five years.

“Homeowners can typically buy themselves 10-15 more years of life out of their roof,” he says. “It’s a smart idea to offer a novel solution that allows people to put off a big expenditure like a new roof. Timing is everything. People who get this game-changing application during summer months are essentially also weatherproofing their roof to make it through the harsh cold season that follows.”
