Overcoming anxiety

If you’re engaged in talk therapy—or taking meds like Prozac or Zoloft—now is the time to explore Neuro Sympathetic Reset (NSR).

Here in Northeast Ohio, we are blessed to have some of the finest healthcare facilities in the world, so much so that people from all over the globe come here for treatment.

There is another local medical facility that attracts national and international patients. It’s called Reset Medical & Wellness Center, which specializes in Neuro Sympathetic Reset (NSR), an innovative treatment that improves symptoms of anxiety-related conditions. During the 20-minute outpatient procedure, a local anesthetic is injected around the “stellate ganglion,” a cluster of nerves in the neck, to disrupt excessive fight-or-flight signals and reduce the body’s stress response.

How It Works

“The anesthetic block temporarily halts this part of the overactive nervous system, allowing the system to ‘reset,’” explains Michael Louwers, MD, the center’s CEO and medical director. “It’s similar to how rebooting a computer can solve operating issues. The block helps create new pathways in the brain that allow us to process emotions and respond to stress in a healthy way. We’ve found that by combining NSR with other treatments—like talk therapy and mindfulness techniques—patients see even better results.”

NSR has long been approved for pain relief, but physicians and researchers discovered that pain patients were also reporting significantly reduced anxiety. That brought NSR into the mainstream. Though most insurance companies still do not cover it, NSR is now being used to treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, menopause, chronic fatigue, Long-COVID and other conditions.

“Many people think PTSD involves only a single highly traumatic event,” Dr. Louwers explains. “But it can also be caused by long-term trauma, including physical and emotional abuse and issues involving childhood, work life or even the economy. These daily stressors add up over time, and the body often adapts in ways that create physical symptoms like headaches, digestive issues, chronic fatigue, or a feeling of muscle tension and panic”.

To help balance that heightened state, the team has created a calm, spa-like environment that is warm, welcoming, and relaxing, while still meeting the highest medical standards for safety and cleanliness.

“We understand our patients,” Dr. Louwers says. “Our patient engagement team is highly trained and compassionate. They help patients feel comfortable from the moment they reach out. For those with anxiety, even making a call can be difficult. We recognize that. We understand that. We care. And we’re here.”
