Driven by a culture of caring and relentless striving for excellence, Anthony Slabaugh Remodeling & Design has provided an elevated home remodeling experience for the past 29 years.

“Whether it’s a whole-home remodel, home addition, exterior remodel or kitchen and bathroom transformation, our full-service design-build remodeling firm is built on a passion for creating spaces that reflect each client’s unique personality,” says founder Anthony Slabaugh.

His career path is the embodiment of the American dream.

“No one in my family was in construction, but it was a calling for me,” he says. “I was the kid in the neighborhood who built a two-story, 30-foot tree fort with bunk beds when I was 14.”

When Anthony started the business, it was just him, his carpentry skills, a set of tools and a vision.

“I always had a plan,” he says. “Two years in, Lee Brooks, our estimator and my brother-in-law, came on board. Over time we sought continual education and building relationships all around the nation and developed systems and processes. We evolved from an owner-operator company to a full-blown design-build firm with a team of 10. They are outstanding people who care. It is a bit surreal to see what we have become.”

The firm has brought fabulous homes to life in Hudson, Akron and Cleveland’s toniest East Side neighborhoods.

“What has always made us different from other design-build firms is we are extremely organized and just plain do what we say we will do when it comes to price, time and scope of any job,” says Anthony. “Our process is constantly being tweaked and improved to elevate the experience.”

Meet the Dynamic Project Developers

The “faces” of the company are Project Developers Isaiah Slabaugh and Ryan Schwartz.

“They carry our clients through the whole process and make sure they get what they want, delivering vision from concept to completion,” says Anthony. “They carry out our culture of excellence with each client interaction. I’m very proud of that.”

His son Isaiah joined the firm fresh out of college two years ago and has been a leader and asset to the team.

“In college, he started out in engineering, then switched to business and marketing analytics, so his repertoire is expansive,” says Anthony. “He’s energetic and always full of fresh ideas and the capability to bring them to the table with innovative home design. The stars aligned and we are lucky to have him as a project developer.”

“Ryan came to us in 2017 and has been a mentor to Isaiah,” says Anthony. “He was a commercial sales rep when we opened long ago, and he always struck me as a big talent. He ran a restoration business and possesses a true gift for design and knowing what will work in a home. We are lucky to have him.”

Like HGTV, Only Better

“Before coming up with a 3D CAD design using Chief Architect, with enhanced HGTV-like photography of the renovation through room scans, along with Designer Nick Boka, we get to know the client,” says Isaiah. “We find out how they like to spend their time, what restaurants they go to, etc. Many of our clients become long-time friends after the job is finished and that’s what we want.”

The process takes place in the Design Center, which was introduced in 2011. It had always been a dream of Anthony’s, who views it as a platform for opening up a client’s style inspiration.

Streamlined, Transparent Communication

Ryan says if he had to sum up the customer experience they have cultivated in two words, they would be “low stress.”

“We care a lot about insulating clients from feeling the stress that can pop up with major renovations, and we take it on ourselves,” he says.

One of the tools the team taps into that reduces stress is the JobTread construction management platform.

“It allows us to interface with the homeowner through daily updates on budgets, selections and job progress,” says Isaiah.

Going the Distance

When it comes to high-end custom design, Project Developers Isaiah Slabaugh and Ryan Schwartz have built a reputation for going above and beyond to bring a client’s vision to life. They mention a rustic, mid-century modern basement renovation where the client wanted the steel support posts to be encapsulated by real trees. Ryan and Isaiah found someone in Louisiana to split cedar logs, then debark and kiln-dry them so they could be seamed back together. The final effect was breathtaking.

“Another primary bath renovation had an Asian decor,” recalls Ryan. “The client wanted a tub carved from wood and we found an artisan on an island off Maine who could build one from solid walnut. It was tricky getting it here, but the result was incredible. We are driven to do whatever it takes to source the finest materials and craftsmanship. We love a challenge and the chance to surprise and delight our clients.”
