Is your roof safe for Santa Claus to land?

Patricia Nugent • October 11, 2024

Don’t miss out on the joy of Christmas Eve by neglecting your roof. Spartan StormShield can ensure your roof is approved for Santa’s next sleigh stop.

Call Spartan StormShield for a roof inspection following a wind or hailstorm, if you notice missing shingles, see water spots, or after your roof reaches the age of 10, then every third year or so after that.

Can’t you just hear those sleigh bells ring-ting-jingling?

As we approach the end of the year and begin preparing for the holidays, it’s time to think about Santa Claus making his annual globe-circling journey. Will your rooftop be a safe and secure landing zone for nine spirited reindeer and an overloaded sleigh?

With her signature brand of insatiable curiosity, Mimi caught up with Santa at his workshop in the North Pole to ask how preparations for the big day are coming along.

Turns out, few individuals are more qualified to address the concerns of one’s roof than Santa Claus.

He keeps a detailed record of the millions of rooftops he’s landed on over the years. And when he has doubts about a specific roof in Northeast Ohio, he contacts Spartan StormShield to confirm if it is ready for his arrival on December 24.

Mimi: Santa, I’m curious, how do you know a roof is safe to land on? Can you tell me what things you look for to make sure it’s safe?

Santa: My top priority is always the safety of my team of my reindeer and my gift-laden sleigh.

I’ve been following the folks at Spartan StormShield for years and believe they are among the best in the business. Thus, I’ve asked them to keep an eye out for the following criteria when evaluating roofs on my behalf:

  1. Are your roof’s surface and structural integrity safe enough for my sleigh to land?
  2. Will I be able to slide down your chimney and climb out without any issues?

Let me explain. The Spartan team looks for, first and foremost, loose or missing shingles. They can be a real hazard, not only for me and my reindeer, but for your home as well.

Next, in order to assess the structural integrity of your roof for landing, Spartan’s roofing specialists climb in your attic to look for rotted or moldy deck wood. The thought of your roof caving in under the weight of my sleigh is enough to send shivers down my spine. Spartan also inspects the areas prone to ice dam buildup along the outside perimeter of your roof, which could lead not only to water penetration within your home but also gutter damage along the eaves.

In addition, Spartan StormShield evaluates the condition of your chimney. You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve encountered a chimney with a damaged crown. It may seem insignificant, but trust me, it’s crucial. No one wants to sit on a broken or crumbling chimney crown. Bent chimney flashing can also be a problem. It may not be the most glamorous part of a chimney, but it serves an important purpose. It keeps water from seeping in and causing damage. Can you imagine trying to slide down a chimney with loose bricks and mortar? That’s why Spartan always makes sure to check that both the chimney crown and flashing are in good condition, with no signs of water penetration. And if Spartan does find a problem, the team will be sure to let you know so it can be taken care of before my arrival.
