Here’s why vein treatments take time

While treatment is often well worth the outcome, patients with a specific timeline should plan ahead—most people regret waiting to start treatment, not starting too soon.

Many patients contact our office in the fall hoping to complete their varicose vein treatments by the end of the year. Unfortunately, that isn’t typically possible, largely due to insurance regulations.

For healthy legs and an active summer in 2027, it’s best to start right now. Here’s why: After your initial consultation, most insurance companies require compression stockings for six weeks to three months. The exact duration depends on your individual plan.

Now, during that conservative treatment ‘trial’, we can get some things done—like vein mapping, an important diagnostic tool that helps determine the best treatment plan —but, the waiting period is not the doctors choice. Then, even after approval is requested, authorization can take several weeks, with additional insurance-related delays sometimes extending the process. While treatment is often well worth the outcome, patients with a specific timeline should plan ahead—most people regret waiting to start treatment, not starting too soon.

Now, there are times when insurance allows quicker treatment, but the first step is always the consultation. The sooner that happens, the sooner you can find out if treatment can be done safely by your deadline. We are proud that we are a private practice, not dictated by corporate rules or quotas. We focus on treating you holistically, and with respect. Providing an honest, upfront understanding that varicose vein treatments take time is important to us—and for you.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms and want to enjoy a healthy, active summer next year, please give our office a call now: leg pain or swelling • heaviness or fatigue • itching, tingling, or burning • inflammation • skin discoloration • restless legs syndrome.
