When Dr. Jorge Garcia-Zuazaga opened the first Apex Dermatology office in 2011 in Concord, his mission was to transform lives through healthy skin.

Fast-forward to 2023 and Apex has grown exponentially in just over a decade, as there is now an office within a half-hour drive from anywhere in Northeast Ohio spanning west to Lorain, east to Ashtabula, and south to Canton. All in all, there are 14 offices, including the new headquarters in Mayfield Heights.

“Apex has grown in size over the years, but more importantly it has become a place people can rely on,” says Dr. Brian Moore, who sees patients in the Mayfield office. “Through all our growth, we still offer same-day appointments. We realize patients get anxious when they find a suspicious mole or have other issues and want to be seen immediately—and not have to wait for days, weeks, or months.”

Skin-sational HQ
From the moment you drive up to the new 18,000-square-foot Mayfield office, the attention to detail and special touches are evident. The peculiar-shaped windows embellishing the front of the building actually spell out the word “skin” in Morse code.

Inside, there is artwork created by local artists adorning the lobby and treatment rooms. Landscape photography in the medical offices portrays a calming and relaxing feel, while bold-colored paintings in the aesthetic clinic are more playful.

“Our new office is conveniently located to serve all Northeast Ohio,” says Megan Sevilla, PA-C, who practices medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology, with a special interest in psoriasis and early detection of skin cancer. “Patients can get Botox, facial treatments and other aesthetic services, along with medical services and Mohs surgery to remove skin cancer all in one location. And we offer same-day spot check appointments, so we can ease any concerns instead of having to wait three to six months to be seen for just one spot.”

Aesthetic Clinic
While all the Apex offices offer both medical and aesthetic dermatology, Mayfield is the first location to have a separate aesthetic clinic next to the medical offices.

“We have integrated our aesthetic boutique services with medical and surgical services next to each other,” Dr. Moore says. “Many patients have cosmetic concerns along with medical issues, so we can address both in one location.”

While all the Apex offices offer both medical and aesthetic dermatology, Mayfield is the first location to have a separate aesthetic clinic next to the medical offices. Treatments include chemical peels, injectables and microneedling, along with more advanced skin rejuvenation, such as laser skin resurfacing, platelet-rich plasma and EmFace. They also specialize in body contouring treatments EmSculpt and CoolScultpting.

The Apex Skin treatments include clinical facials, chemical peels and microneedling, along with more advanced skin rejuvenation, such as laser skin resurfacing, platelet-rich plasma injections, and EmFace.

“We also offer cosmetic injectables along with CoolSclupting and Emsculpt NEO, both noninvasive body contouring treatments,” says Liz Sippey, PA-C, who specializes in aesthetic treatments. “We are adding Exion radiofrequency microneedling this fall as we always strive to offer the latest technology that is minimally invasive.”

New Clinical Trials
In addition to a general dermatology office, an aesthetic clinic and a Mohs skin cancer surgery center, the new headquarters also houses a clinical research center and laboratory.

Apex’s research team is conducting clinical trials to learn as much as it can about skin conditions and formulate treatments. It has recently completed several global studies and is currently enrolling patients in studies for plaque psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (eczema), vitiligo and lichen planus.

“It benefits our patients to be involved in clinical trials of new therapies as well as solidifying the safety and efficacy of older therapies,” Dr. Moore says. “Adding a research division allows us to help bring new drugs and treatments for dermatology to the market.”

Apex Dermatology corporate headquarters is located at 29111 Cedar Road in Mayfield Heights. There are 13 additional offices to serve Northeast Ohio. To schedule an appointment in your area, call 833-279-SKIN (7546) or visit ApexSkin.com.
