Fabulous finds you won’t find anyplace else. Here’s why a visit to The Shop at Cleveland Stone Co. is a must.

As well-kept secret of builders, interior designers and homeowners in the know, The Shop at Cleveland Stone Co. offers distinctive home and garden décor and darling giftable goods. You’ll discover “that something different” shopping for everything from rugs and pillows to wreaths, candles, books, tableware, furniture, sculptures and wall art.

Fabulous New Merch

Run by Vicki Heyman, who spent four days in April buying at the National Home Décor Show, the shop is intentionally organized in delightful displays of things that spoke to her.

For seasonal, get your Fourth on at the Independence Day display featuring all things patriotic—tableware, glassware, candles, cutting boards, napkins, garland and garden gnomes. Check out the unusual version of the American flag that features all 50 states written within the stripes. From now until the Fourth, she’s running a BOGO deal for half off your second item.

Adorable indoor and outdoor pillows in every pattern imaginable are in a vertical display by the entryway. And you’ll find things with a beachy lake house flavor, from fish sculptures and tableware to beach glass candlesticks, throw blankets, furniture, lamps crafted from gnarly driftwood and stunning wall art. Custom signs sandblasted from sandstone are also big sellers.

There are sections to appeal to dog lovers, cat lovers and backyard birders, with whimsical goodies like bowls, mugs, games and seed pack figurines. A top seller is the line of Evergreen colorful blown glass bird feeders, each one a work of art.

“A cool new product is the Everlasting Candle line,” she says. “These elegant steel candlesticks never melt. Sustainable luxury at its best, they clean-burn oil and provide endless burning ambience to any home.”

In the corner, a collection of gift-worthy items for sports and bourbon lovers—looking at you thoughtful last-minute Father’s Day gifts—contains Ohio State bar signs and bourbon and whiskey-themed coasters, toothpicks, mugs and barbecue sauces.

“Our section for book lovers includes interesting historic and coffee table books, as well as book ends and bookshelf art such as amethyst geodes and fossils, like ammonite,” she says.

How Does Your Garden Go?

“This year we’ve brought in lots of gorgeous garden décor you won’t find at big-box garden centers, from solar lighting and outdoor lighting fixtures to planters and floral flags,” says Vicki. “In addition to garden fountains, I’ve selected statuary to take any garden scape from so-so to sensational.”

From the comical (a 3-foot frog doing yoga) to the cartoonish (a statue of Merlin that Harry Potter fans will adore), and even conversation pieces (Hemingway’s famous extra-toed cats), these outdoor stunners start at $150.

Look for a new display, housed within a pergola and showcasing garden décor, to be delivered this week.

Design Set in Stone

With designers, artists and craftsmen on staff, Cleveland Stone Co. can custom create outdoor patios, sculptures, busts and pool surrounds from the Berea sandstone it quarries there or any stone you choose.

President Zachary Carpenter explains the appeal of Berea Sandstone goes beyond its beautiful esthetic, with a pale gray to buff color and moderate veining. It’s also resistant to chemicals and will not deteriorate over time due to exposure to the elements.

“We’ll soon be introducing sculptures to the shop,” Zach says. “Look for more affordable plaster replicas of classic sculptures like Venus de Milo, gargoyles and angels, as well as higher-end versions cut from real stone.”

Other architectural accents they offer include decorative balustrades, fireplace hearths and surrounds, pavers, slabs, split garden stone walls and more.

“We ship our work all over the country,” he says. “Here in Cleveland, we’ve done lots of jobs for luxury homes on the East Side. We fabricate the stone for the house and everything you need for the hardscapes.”

Make a Day of It

Touted as “a small town on a Great Lake,” Vermilion is a hidden gem. What began as a fishing village at the start of the 18th century is today a bustling coastal destination. The scenic half-hour car trip from Westlake along Route 2 makes this the ideal girlfriend getaway. Why not combine a shopping junket to Cleveland Stone Co., with the myriad other fun happenings here?

“Our quaint downtown has become an excursion of choice for West Siders, with super cute clothing boutiques, restaurants like Chez François and Granny Joe’s Ice Cream Creamatoriam, sightseeing and hanging out on the newly expanded Main Street beachfront,” says Zach.

Overlooking the Vermilion River, The Shop at Cleveland Stone Co. is a mile-and-a-half off Route 2, located at 850 W. River Road in Vermilion. Call 440-963-4008 or visit TheShopAtClevelandStone.com for more information. You can buy products from the website, but this is such an enjoyable shopping experience, why would you want to?
