ANew U

With an impressive menu packed full of the latest skin and hair health treatments, Anew U Spa is quickly becoming one of the area leaders in personal beauty.

A stack of books sits on a wooden table, next to a lit candle and a warm cup of coffee or tea.

At Anew U Spa in Avon, the path to feeling and looking your best is deeply intentional. Inside this cozy sanctuary, owner Rosa Felix-Jones and her seasoned team tap into the latest skincare techniques and therapeutic body work.

Housed in what was once a private home, the two-story space exudes a warm, inviting charm that feels like a posh escape. You’re greeted in the reception lounge by a roaring fireplace and leather-bound chairs, while the central gathering room—adorned with crystal chandeliers, velvet tufted club chairs and a modern glass-topped table—offers the perfect setting to enjoy a cup of smoothing tea or gourmet coffee before or after treatments. Rosa was once an interior decorator, and it shows.

Next-Level Treatments

An Aesthetician and massage therapist, with every massage Rosa targets the root of discomfort.

“Using a whole-body approach, I assess pain, posture and restricted movement. The goal is to reduce pain, increase motion and improve functional abilities,” says Rosa.

“Each medical massage is a customized plan for conditions such as sciatica; pelvic or back pain; neck pain and headaches or migraines; frozen shoulder; TMJ; and scar tissue. Using Vodder’s manual lymphatic drainage technique, she stimulates the lymphatic system, reduces swelling and accelerates waste removal—especially before or after surgery or on a seasonal basis,” she says.

Equally transformative is the spa’s skincare program, led by Aesthetician, Cosmetologist and Reiki Master Marge Daidone.

With a specialty in anti-aging services, she begins every facial with a consultation, because, as Marge explains it, “your skin tells the story of what’s happening in your body.”

Joining Rosa and Marge at the spa is Cathy Haines, a massage therapist who also has decades of experience and specializes in deep or relaxation massage.

They confess to being “skincare nerds” and have amassed an impressive collection of professional-grade, targeted retail products not found at other spas.

Detox and Relax

During our interview, when Rosa and Marge find out I have never had a head spa treatment, they persuade me to come back for one. How could I refuse?

“This is one of our most popular treatments,” says Marge. “It’s equal parts scalp, hair health and relaxation. Once people get it, they’re hooked and keep coming back.”

After an hour of intensely relaxing scalp, neck and shoulder massage, I consider myself similarly hooked.

Head spa treatment has been skyrocketing the past several years for good reason. Originating in Japan, it’s rooted in holistic wellness rituals, promoting detox, improved blood circulation and deep relaxation.

My treatment begins with tricho analysis. Marge magnifies my scalp by 250 times and tells me there’s a buildup of sebum that looks like it’s clogging the hair follicles, which affects hair growth and health. (News to me as I’ve been blaming thinning hair the past few years on declining hormones.) She tells me, “Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp.”

Then I lay down on a deliciously warm massage bed and my head is positioned back into a specially outfitted shampoo bowl. She envelops me in a heated blanket, which creates a bracing yin-yang collision of warmth and chill when she rinses the different products with a rain shower halo. A cooled jade eye mask feels refreshing, and so do the jade combs Marge uses throughout the massage. She has chosen two shampoos, one with binchotan charcoal for clarifying and one with rice starch for restructuring. She finishes by applying an aromatherapeutic rosemary oil to my hair that smells heavenly. After a hug that she says closes the treatment with “good energy,” I float out of there, de-stressed, detoxed and blissed out.
