How you live in your home changes from year to year. A house functions differently when a bachelor pad is turned into a couple’s home. A house that was perfect for a young couple bursts at the seams when kids are brought into the equation. A house where parents raised their children now needs to be a place where they can age in place.

Through these life journeys, there are so many cherished memories made in a home, often making it difficult to move, which is why so many homeowners opt to renovate or expand their home instead of moving.

And that is exactly what Kaye Construction has been doing for decades—helping homeowners stay put, in the house they love, in the neighborhood they love.

“We want homeowners to love their home even more when we show them how we can change the flow of the house or expand their square footage,” says Josh Kaye, who, along with his brother, Joe, and father, Ron, owns Kaye Construction.

Expanding the Kitchen’s Footprint

Last fall, Kaye Construction remodeled the North Olmsted home pictured here, and increased the kitchen footprint by borrowing space from a hallway and bedroom.

“The homeowners had an extra bedroom they were not using, so we were able to add more square feet in the kitchen, which is the hub of the house,” says Ron. “We also made it function better by installing a second sink along with a dishwasher in the island.”

The spacious kitchen features classic cherry-stained cabinets, including wall-to-ceiling units that function as a pantry and provide extra storage space. The cabinets are topped with granite countertops and underfoot is luxury vinyl tile.

Lighting Up the Kitchen

Not all homeowners are looking to increase their kitchen size, but just want an updated design. Kaye Construction helped homeowners in Strongsville find their own style, mixing some elements that are on trend with classic styles for a renewed, timeless home.

The homeowner picked out cream-colored cabinets, which were complemented by a whitewash-stained maple island and a farmhouse sink—a nod to French Country design.

“We did not add any square feet to the kitchen, but added lots of lighting—like dimmable recessed lighting, pendant lights and under-cabinet lighting—to make it feel brighter and bigger,” says Josh. “We also installed a 9-foot slider door leading to the patio, which allows in more natural lighting. The home now has a modern feel but is still classic.”

The homeowner opted for COREtec stone LVP flooring, which is the best of both worlds. “It is a luxury vinyl plank with pieces of stone in it, so you get the look of tile but the comfortability of a padded vinyl plank,” Josh explains.

For the finishing touches, Kaye used a mix of metals, including a brushed nickel faucet and rubbed bronze doorknobs.

Since the kitchen design was neutral, the tile backsplash added the wow factor. The hexagon stone tiles, in shades of blues, greens, grays and browns, add pops of color and draw everything together.

“We always tell clients either to pick a neutral backsplash or have it pop, but don’t do something in middle,” comments Josh.

Adding New Space

There are many renovations you can make without increasing the footprint of your home that will make it function better. For those who need more space, Kaye Construction specializes in home additions.

Home additions come in all shapes and sizes. From adding a second-floor master bedroom and bathroom to building a sunroom on the back of your home, you will enjoy these newfound spaces for years to come.

The company recently built an addition on another Strongsville home.

“We added two bedrooms, a bathroom and sitting room in the back of the house,” Josh says. “The homeowners wanted a space where their parents could move in and age in place.”

In total, 700 square feet was added to the home’s footprint inside, and Kaye also built two decks outside.

“In the sitting room, we needed to add a beam for structural support. We added another beam and covered them both in wood, so it looked like part of the design and was meant to be there,” says Josh.

Kaye Construction specializes in kitchens and home additions from concept to completion. Operated by a father and two sons, the no-frills company relies on a strong work ethic and practical know-how from more than a quarter-century of experience.

“We have earned a five-star Google rating and are accredited with the Better Business Bureau, so you can put your trust in us,” says Josh. “Let our family help yours with your next home renovation.”
