The roof system to last your lifetime

Patricia Nugent • March 17, 2023

Is your roof hiding a secret? Here’s how to avoid becoming a statistic and discover the Spartan StormShield difference.

A two-story house with beige stone siding, a dark shingled roof, a wooden front door, and green landscaping.

With thousands of roof installs under their belt, the team at Spartan StormShield has experience with all kinds of homes, from simple projects to more complex roof systems like this one. The company also holds the distinction of being in the GAF President’s Club, for which only 1% of roofers qualify.

It’s rare to find a company that takes extreme ownership of its work. But Spartan StormShield is standing firm against the temptation to compromise.

Spartan was founded in 2012 by the Arlia brothers, who recognized a serious void in the roofing industry and the need to help homeowners across Northeast Ohio avoid being misinformed.

Their epiphany happened while working for another roofing company in the area. It was a cold February day in 2011 when one of the brothers was called to meet with a woman who had replaced her roof just six months prior. Water was leaking into her home as a result of an ice dam—a serious problem caused by the formation of ice underneath shingles and penetrating the interior of a home when it melts.

In an effort to help this woman, a phone call was placed to the office, but the instructions received back were shocking. Although this poor homeowner had just received a brand-new roof, her warranty did not cover ice dams. And to add insult to injury, she was required to pay out-of-pocket to have the ice dam removed.

Clearly, something was wrong with this picture, and the Arlias have not looked back in their pursuit to stand apart from such practices within the industry. Armed with product innovation and trusted craftsmanship from highly trained crews, Spartan has earned a reputation for going well beyond industry standards.

Creative, Innovative Solutions

“Our ultimate goal is to keep our clients for a lifetime,” says co-owner Joel Arlia, who notes the brothers grew up in the trades. Their father was a master plumber, and they all worked for roofing companies. “We don’t send out salesmen like most roofing companies,” he adds. “We send roofing specialists.”

When a roof leaks, it’s rarely the shingles that are leaking, but rather the area around the shingles that connect to other components of the roof system.

Joel points out, “We over-invest in quality control because at the end of the day, we are really in the people business as much as the roofing business. Our job is to take good care of people, including protecting their homes and landscaping during a job or advocating for them when it comes to insurance claims, making sure they get the maximum benefit. We have worked through more than 3,000 insurance claims.”

In 2017, Joel and his brother were joined by a third partner to help grow both the retail (Spartan WeatherShield) and insurance (Spartan Storm Services) sides of the business. Today, both divisions are represented under one name, Spartan StormShield. And the company is a top-tier, certified contractor for the largest shingle manufacturer in America.

What Clients Are Saying

It’s unusual for service companies to earn a full slate of five-star reviews. Common verbiage in the reviews for Spartan points to an impressive level of professionalism.

Here are two examples:

  • Lisa Falkenstein had a troublesome leak on the third floor of her Lakewood home. She posted in a community group for recommendations of top roofers, and Spartan’s name kept coming up. “I called and James got right back to me. He came out within 24 hours for an assessment, and then came out, as promised, and did the repair. Great communication. Beyond reasonable time to get to the project and cost.”
  • Sylvia Schwark says, “We were impressed with our Project Manager Andy Emley’s ability to explain all parts of our storm-damaged roofing replacement. He cared and really wanted us to be satisfied. The roof looks great and all matters were handled professionally. So happy we gave Spartan Storm a call.”

Getting Started

This time of year, with robust spring rains and still the potential for melting snow, homeowners may be noticing telltale water spots on their ceiling, as well as dampness, rotting wood, or moldy areas in attics, walls, or basements. If this is happening to you—or you’d like to prevent it from happening with a proactive leak analysis—it’s a good idea to call the experts at Spartan StormShield soon to get in their queue and have your job completed before summer.

The team at Spartan StormShield is so committed to extraordinary quality, they are willing to promise their Spartan roof is “the last roof you’ll ever buy.”

And, yes, their Double-Lifetime 100% Leak-Through Warranty does cover ice dams.

An A+ rated member of the Better Business Bureau, Spartan StormShield is headquartered at 309 Silver Street in Akron. They install and repair roofs for homes and businesses all over Northeast Ohio.
