Home care for vets

Seniors Helping Seniors has been approved to supply non-medical, in-home care to veterans.

Bryan Marn and Julie Dey opened Seniors Helping Seniors—a unique business model that pairs seniors with peers over 50 for help with daily needs—as a means of serving the community they love.

When they found out about the significant number of veteran seniors in the area who need help and aren’t receiving it, they went through the lengthy application and approval process to become an agency with services that are covered under veteran benefits.

“With not enough agencies locally to serve veterans, we are hopeful to help,” says Bryan. The couple says for them, honoring this often-unthanked population is personal. Bryan’s dad Donald Marn is a Vietnam veteran.

“The families we work with often don’t realize their benefits can cover non-medical, in-home care. These veterans, who bravely served our country, are fiercely independent, so it means the world to us to broaden our reach and be able to help them stay in their homes and thrive.”

Non-medical home care services include safety and fall prevention, medication reminders, long distance check-ins, daily living needs like getting dressed, running errands, transportation to appointments, companionship socialization, meal prep, shopping, light house-keeping, yard work, pet care and light handyman jobs.

“I joke with my dad that he will be a client of ours down the line,” he adds. “And it’s a comfort to us to be well-versed in the services he deserves.”

Care is customized to each client and fostered through meaningful interactions.

Bryan and Julie report their business has taken off over the past few months and they are hiring people over 50 who are looking for a rewarding job where they can connect with others.

If you have a loved one who is a veteran and could benefit from care, call Bryan or Julie for a free, in-home consultation.

Headquartered in Wickliffe, Seniors Helping Seniors serves seniors in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties. Visit SeniorCareNEO.com or call 440-494-8156 for more information. The minimum is two hours, twice per week, with overnight care available. In addition to Veteran’s benefits, the service accepts long-term care insurance and private pay.
