Finding purpose in retirement

Joan Starkowsky, MA, BCC; Founder of Sirocco Coach-Consulting • March 12, 2025

Sirocco Coach-Consulting helps clients develop essential skills, such as maintaining and rebuilding social connections as they transition away from workplace relationships.

Your next chapter can be dynamic and deeply rewarding when you rediscover and repurpose what truly makes you, you.

Just as I’ve leveraged my corporate career experience to help people find passion and purpose in their personal and professional lives, I also guide clients in planning a fulfilling and purpose-driven retirement.

People in their 50s and beyond are often overwhelmed by all the unknowns that come with retirement. Maybe they associate the concept with old age or being “done.” Maybe they work at their job years longer than they need to because their personal identity is too wrapped up in their career. They are what they do. Stuck in the familiar.

As a Board Certified Coach (BCC), over the years I’ve guided people to break free from that self-limiting mindset and face this uncertain territory with intention, passion and clarity, while maintaining a sense of security and control.

Along with my fellow coach, Mary Ellen Garofalo, during virtual or in-person sessions with either individuals or couples, we help put a framework around what this bold new chapter can look like. We help clients develop essential skills, such as maintaining and rebuilding social connections as they transition away from workplace relationships. Through creative exploration, we empower them to design well-rounded, inspired decisions for their next chapters.

Retirement is only an ending if you choose to see it that way.

After working with us, people report they are energized and excited about their future again. They have the tools to reimagine new beginnings, filled with promise, purpose and possibilities. It’s not just about finding ways to fill the time and be busy—it’s about thriving. With our guidance, they can design a life that’s meaningful and fulfilling.

Your next chapter can be dynamic and deeply rewarding when you rediscover and repurpose what truly makes you, you. We’re here to help.
