At StretchLab Fairlawn, members are rediscovering the joy of moving freely—without pain or injury

New StretchLab members start with a MAPS assessment, which targets Mobility, Activation, Posture and Symmetry. Trained Flexologists take this information and use it to curate a program designed just for you.

We all have typical movement patterns that don’t change much as we go from day to day, sticking to our routines. Then, when we move differently, we can suffer pain, or even injury, doing something as simple as tying our shoes or picking up a child. So, what do we do to prepare our bodies for something new? We stretch.

“We all have basic movement patterns, but the key is to have the ability to unlock new movement without experiencing pain or injury,” says StretchLab Fairlawn General Manager Morgan Wantz. “Stretching improves mobility and helps you feel better overall, regardless of age or ability level. With StretchLab, you’ll love all of the movements and activities you used to enjoy and maybe discover some new ones, all pain-free.”

Morgan says to think of StretchLab as a stepping stone to the things you want to do but are avoiding due to lack of mobility.

“We address everything physically holding you back from the things you’d like to do, whether it’s getting on the floor with the grandchildren, running a marathon, or something in between,” Morgan says. “Everyone’s goals are unique, and your StretchLab assisted stretch is tailored to meet yours.”

At StretchLab, a trained Flexologist guides you through a series of StretchLab’s 26 signature stretches tailored to you. Flexologists like to say that stretching is for everybody and every body. Aches and pains and lack of mobility are common at any age, but they don’t have to be. And not all stretching is the same.

“Before your first stretch, a Flexologist reaches out to you about your goals, lifestyle, past injuries and other information,” Morgan says. “Flexologists are trained experts with a mandatory background in fitness that may include bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a related field, along with a range of certifications in yoga, personal training and more. In addition to their individual experience, Flexologists complete an extensive, three-tiered certification process that makes them uniquely qualified to design a program appropriate for each member.”

Flexologists participate in 60-plus hours of in-person workshops and online training and complete 20-plus practice hours administering StretchLab’s 26 stretches. Continuing education courses train them to customize and fine-tune stretch sessions for their clients’ individual needs.

“Your first stretch begins with our simple MAPS assessment to determine Mobility, Activation, Posture and Symmetry, and provide us with information we need to ensure you get the most out of your session,” Morgan says. “We recommend a 50-minute, 26-stretch initial session that targets every muscle group. Future sessions are then personalized to target your needs.”

Morgan stresses the client is always in control.

“We are partners and will never push you beyond your comfort level,” Morgan says. “People often describe a session as a massage or light workout. Progress notes are taken after each stretch, so no time is wasted for your next stretch.”

Morgan says the most satisfying thing is seeing the sheer joy in her clients as they progress.

“We get to know you and celebrate your successes,” Morgan says. “It’s nice to know you have someone in your corner, a friend who is a trained professional to prepare you for whatever comes next. And it all starts with a stretch.”
