Cannabis for the rest of us

Mimi Vanderhaven • September 13, 2024

From older Americans to young soccer moms, more people are improving their health by putting down the alcohol—and picking up a gummy.

More and more Americans are turning to cannabis to help with pain, anxiety, sleeplessness and to reduce alcohol consumption. Local cannabis manufacturing lab and retail store Clean Remedies produces and sells all-natural, organic CBD and THC products right here in Avon—with no medical card needed. When people think of cannabis, different images may come to mind: A pair of twenty-something stoners hanging out in their parents’ basement, or billionaire entertainers imbibing from a trendy balcony overlooking the Hollywood Hills.

But neither of these images captures today’s typical cannabis consumer. We’re talking cannabis for the rest of us.

“Our customers tend to be older adults looking for pain relief or help with anxiety and sleeplessness,” explains Meredith Farrow, founder of Avon’s Clean Remedies, a manufacturer and dispensary of cannabis-based products. “Another key segment is young mothers dealing with the stress of family, home and career. After the kids go to bed, instead of reaching for a glass of wine or a tequila, they reach for a gummy.”

In fact, reduced alcohol consumption is one of the biggest reasons so many people are turning to cannabis. It’s less toxic than alcohol, less addictive, less harmful to the body and less likely to contribute to violent or reckless behavior.

How It Started

After a long battle with post-partum depression, Meredith grew tired of the drugs her doctor had prescribed her and started searching for a more natural treatment. That’s when she discovered CBD and THC, two key chemicals in cannabis. Then she did what any young, passionate, dedicated and hard-working entrepreneur would do. While maintaining her home in Northeast Ohio, she launched facilities out west—in Colorado, Nevada and Oregon—to learn the industry before bringing it to Avon in 2018.

Today, Clean Remedies manufactures and sells a complete line of cannabis-based products with varying amounts of CBD and THC, depending on what your goals are.

Tailored to You

“If you’re experienced with cannabis, it’s fine to go to our website and make a purchase,” Meredith invites. “But if you’re not experienced, we encourage you to come to our facility and talk with us about your goals. You don’t need a medical card or an appointment. Just drop in. New customers often spend 45 minutes with us—talking, asking questions, and learning. We’re here to make sure you get a product tailored to your needs.”

Of the many people who are customers of Clean Remedies, most are seeking help with:

  • Pain relief
  • Sleeplessness
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Reduced alcohol consumption

The retail area at Clean Remedies feels like the lobby of a high-end spa or the cosmetic counter at a department store. It’s a relaxing, professional, pleasant shopping experience, and it is also tucked away in a discreet industrial park.

Organic and All-Natural

Behind the retail store is something else entirely. It’s a clean room, a high-tech laboratory, and a manufacturing facility where Meredith and her team make virtually all their own products.

“We have chemists on our staff, and we also like to hire chefs,” Meredith says. “A professional kitchen is essentially a lab where chefs bring together different ingredients to produce a quality product and do so with adherence to strict food safety guidelines. That’s what we do. We produce high-quality organic products and regularly undergo inspection by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.”

The products are USDA-certified organic, kosher and all-natural—meaning no artificial flavors or colors.

“We use a third-party lab to constantly test our products, which we label with a QR code so you can see the results,” Meredith explains. “This means no mold, mildew, pesticides, heavy metals or residual solvents. People trust us, and we honor that trust.”

The Clean Remedies lab also features hepa filters, and its technicians suit up head to toe. After production, the team packages, safety seals, boxes, labels and ships. You’ll find the products for sale at the Avon location, online, and in physician’s offices and health stores.

The Products

The Clean Remedies product line includes:

  • Gummies
  • THC flowers
  • Chocolate bars
  • Topicals
  • Tinctures
  • Fruit tarts
  • Face creams and oils

“Our number-one selling product is our Delta 9 THC gummies,” Meredith says. “They take about 45 minutes to take effect, depending on your metabolism, and last four to six hours. If you want a good night’s sleep, take one an hour before going to bed. If you want to relax and enjoy the effects, take one after dinner. A 30-day supply is just $35.99.”

Meredith says she is most proud of the difference her business is making in the lives of others.

“The life stories our customers tell us are so inspiring,” she says. “We hear things like: ‘This has saved my life;’ ‘You have turned my life around;’ ‘I can finally get a good night’s sleep;’ and my favorite, ‘For the first time in 18 years I felt the cloud was lifted.’ We were founded to help people find natural alternatives to Big Pharma, and we are so proud to see that happening every day.”
