One of the main reasons Dr. E. Shanika Esparaz, a double board-certified ophthalmologist, made the choice to open her own direct care practice, Envision Ophthalmology & Wellness, was to have the luxury of spending more time with her patients.

“It means a lot to me to be able to offer my patients ease of access and no wait times,” Dr. Esparaz says. “My goal is always to empower you with knowledge about your eye health and how it relates to your overall health. I can’t do that in three to five minutes, which is a typical patient interaction time among my peers.”

“It would be difficult for me to convey to patients what they need to know about their eye health, lay out a treatment plan and explain options in such a short period of time,” Dr. Esparaz says. “In my practice, I emphasize the importance of that time between patient and physician.”

Dr. Esparaz says that she spends at least 20-30 minutes with a patient to be sure a diagnosis is explained, and patients feel comfortable moving forward. Envision offers medical and surgical treatments for macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and more. And through the state-of-the-art equipment available here, Dr. Esparaz can detect these issues and perform corrective procedures right in the office. There’s no need to refer patients to a surgery center.

“Empowering patients in a convenient setting is my goal,” Dr. Esparaz says. “And it takes time to process a diagnosis, especially one you weren’t expecting. Time with your physician is so valuable. I make sure all my patients receive that in an easy-access, welcoming environment with the latest equipment in vision care.”
