Renowned for his viral stunt videos and focus on philanthropy, YouTuber Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson joined forces with Hearing the Call to help provide hearing solutions to the hearing-impaired locally and globally. With a goal to help 1,000 people, Hearing the Call fit hearing aids on over 90% of recipients in Guatemala, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, India, South Africa and Malawi.

Dr. Cara Donovan, audiologist at Sounds of Life Hearing Center, was extended the chance to be part of this amazing initiative with two days’ notice—an opportunity she was ecstatic to jump on. Dr. Donovan was an integral part of a large mission that resulted in the fitting of about 400 South African adults and children for hearing aids.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 1.5 billion people globally live with hearing loss. The WHO estimates hearing loss costs the global economy $980 billion annually. Giving the gift of hearing helps children learn, reduces depression and isolation in adults and gives people a chance to mark their mark on the world.

“The moment when the hearing aids get turned on, it’s immediate,” Hearing the Call Director Nora Stewart says. “We call it the ‘hearing smile’ and it’s hard to put into words. Instantly people’s whole expression and attitude change. It’s magical.”

Hearing the Call is support by over 90 audiology practices around the United States and maintains 32 projects nationally.
