The month of June boasts the longest, sunniest days of the year. With everything coming back to life—your lawn, plants and outdoor celebrations—in this season of reconnection to nature, now’s a good time to ask yourself: Is your back yard working for you?

The landscape designers and high-end pool installers at Peters Professional Landscaping are a phone call away from bringing your dream back yard to life.

Since 1992, this family-run operation has been evolving to meet the needs of area homeowners.

Resort-Like Backyard

Peters’ pool division can customize any pool to fit your taste and lifestyle and complement your home.

“People are looking for pools that will grow with their family, a space that’ll fit their children and friends, then still be a nice fit when the kids move away and the parents want to entertain more,” says Owner Chris Peters.

He says when it comes to distinctive features, the sky’s the limit, including cascading multilevel configurations, sunken spillover spas and built-in benches within the pool.

“A cool feature that’s trending is called a BADU SwimJet system,” says Chris. “In the pool seen here at a home in Bath, we installed jets to create three speeds of current flow the owners can swim against for a cardio workout. The experience can be controlled from their phone. Also in this design is a beautiful and soothing-sounding waterfall, surrounded by dramatic black and white pavers and a spacious pavilion for entertaining.”

If you’d like your pool installed this summer, he suggests you get on their books soon.

Patios, Pergolas, Pavilions

Peters does it all when it comes to backyard transformations, including pergolas, pavilions, outdoor kitchens, bars, fire features, water features, outdoor lighting and heating, as well as colorful and low-maintenance landscaping design to best complement the structures. It’s good to start with a cohesive master plan in place for the best outcomes.

During the consultation phase, a designer from Peters will sit down with the customer to lead him or her through “what-if” questions to put together everything they’d wish for and hope to accomplish into a design.

It’s Mulch Season

Now that the spring blossoms have fallen, Chris says their phone is ringing off the hook for mulch jobs.

“We buy in bulk for low prices, but quality is very important to us and your yard,” he says. “There’s a big difference between our mulch and what you’d buy by the bag from a big-box store. Our high-end material slow-releases nutrients, beneficial bacteria and microorganisms that enrich your soil. Mulch also retains moisture for the optimal growing conditions for plants, flowers, shrubs and trees, and acts as a deterrent to weeds.”

That "Something Different"

Each year the nursery stock from Ohio growers that’s hand-selected by the discriminating folks over at Peters Professional Landscaping features unique species that are reflective of design trends.

“With the jobs we’ve been doing already this year, it looks like homeowners are making bolder choices and taking chances, which is nice to see,” says Chris. “In general, people are opting for designs that are freeform and organic and less structured.”

Larger, distinctive trees that can act as a focal point in a landscape are popular right now. Chris says they have brought in interesting maple trees with a lovely exfoliating bark, as well as Atlas cypress trees that turn a stunning shade of bright blue.

“Biophilic design is a popular architectural approach that incorporates natural elements into built environments and interiors geared toward enhancing your well-being and productivity,” says Chris. “It’s making its way to exterior design, too. A lot of our customers are asking for vertical landscaping and ‘green walls’ instead of fences to offer privacy in an organic way. We are coming up with plans for staggered rows of arborvitae or other evergreens that grow quickly and add esthetic beauty and enduring privacy for years to come.”

Peters Professional Landscaping will deliver and install any of its stock for you or just deliver if you wish to DIY.
