Weight health control

Losing weight—and keeping it off—isn’t about restrictive eating or weight-loss drugs. Here’s how AcuLaser Treatment Centre helps people shed pounds naturally.

At one time or another, we’ve all had that junk drawer that’s a hot mess. Every time you open it, stress is triggered. You can’t find what you want, so you needlessly replace the item. It keeps getting more jammed and eventually non-functional, so you don’t even bother opening it.

This is a metaphor Luciana McCartney, founder of AcuLaser Treatment Centre, likes to use when explaining the need to detox your body as the first stage of long-lasting weight loss.

“If you don’t spring clean your house, or your body, junk is going to accumulate that will hinder your function, or metabolism,” she says. “That’s why the first month in our 90-Day Weight Health Control Program is all about detox and eating clean to cleanse the body of toxins. The second month focuses on improving metabolism and the third on getting the body in top burning mode from that point onward.”

Supporting the education and nutritional counseling is low-level laser acupuncture to stimulate pressure points that support the endocrine system, the adrenals and the liver and kick the metabolism into high gear, as well as lymphatic drainage massage, which further helps rid the body of toxins.

Eat Clean the Rest of Your Life

“Sadly, I’ve read that 6% of Americans are currently taking GLP-1 drugs for weight loss,” she says. “This class of meds take the opposite approach to weight loss that our program does. They work in the brain and the gut to slow digestion, so you don’t feel hungry. The problem with that is once you go off the meds, you gain the weight back and then some in most cases.”

The Weight Health Control Program aims to teach people how to eat clean, nutrient-dense foods—without additives like sugar—for the rest of their lives.

“We don’t tell people they can never eat carbs again,” she adds. “Our program is more realistic than restrictive. It guides people to work naturally with their body so it can perform at its highest level. Our clients finish it not only losing weight and fat, but also seeing their other health indicators, like blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, improve.”

Meet Terry H.

Several underlying factors took a part in Terry H. hitting her all-time high of 235 pounds two years ago.

She suffered from an overactive thyroid, stress- and binge-eating, and had been put on heavy medications for her heart after she experienced atrial fibrillation during a hernia surgery.

“I’m 64 years old and 4’11,” so I knew my weight was an issue,” says Terry. “I had no energy and could barely get up the stairs at my house without being winded.”

Since she had successfully quit smoking through the Smoking Cessation Program at AcuLaser Treatment Centre in 2017, there was already a trust factor with Luciana. When Terry heard about the weight-loss program in 2023, she signed up immediately and, over the course of the 90-day program, lost 10 pounds. She did it again starting two months ago and has already lost six pounds and is feeling energized. Her goal is to get down to under 175 pounds.

“I feel much healthier and calmer, too,” she says. “I’ve already been able to go from taking nine medications per day to only four, and would hope to get down to two. After I finish the weight-loss program, I plan to start with Dr. Brandon Drabek, ND, to delve deeper into balancing my optimal hormone levels and metabolism.”

Last year, Luciana added Dr. Drabek to her integrative wellness team and also doubled the size of the practice. They are now able to offer the latest treatments in naturopathic or functional health.
