Spring is here, and it’s time to get back in the game. Before you head to the golf course, pickleball court or hit the streets for a run, you might need a good stretch.
It’s been a long, cold, inactive winter for many of us, and even though we’re itching to get outdoors and get back to the activities we enjoy, our bodies might not be quite as ready. Nothing addresses the stiff, tense muscles, body aches and pains of a long winter better than an assisted stretch at StretchLab in Fairlawn.
“Our assisted stretches get and keep you moving no matter what activities you’re doing, even if it’s just getting through your daily routine pain-free,” says area manager Jenna Wiebe. “Everyone’s goals here are unique. We work with clients of all ages and abilities. Some are competing in a sport at a high level and are looking for increased flexibility and strength. Others want to improve a golf swing, run a marathon or simply maintain their independence as they age. Whatever your goals, we’ll help you reach them.”
StretchLab offers one-on-one assisted stretching guided by trained experts, called Flexologists, who provide a stretch you simply can’t achieve on your own.
“People often hesitate to stretch because they’re not sure how and they don’t want to hurt themselves,” says Jenna. “At StretchLab, you’ll not only learn the proper way to stretch, but your Flexologist does it for you.”
The benefits of consistent stretching allow us to do just about everything better, and longer. Winter in Northeast Ohio brings with it a more sedentary lifestyle that affects both body and mind. A hands-on, assisted stretch will unlock the joints, lengthen and strengthen tight muscles and improve your mental state. Clients leave feeling strong, refreshed and ready to move.
Before you arrive for your first stretch session, a Flexologist reaches out about your goals, lifestyle, past injuries and gathers other information. StretchLab Flexologists have backgrounds in various areas of health and fitness and complete an extensive, three-tiered certification process. Training includes 60 hours of in-person workshops and 20-plus hours of hands-on training administering the 26 signature StretchLab stretches designed to address every muscle group in the body.
Your initial, 50-minute stretch begins with a simple MAPS assessment determining mobility, activation, posture and symmetry. MAPS allows Flexologists to identify your specific strengths and weaknesses so they can work on the right muscle groups, allowing you get the most out of your sessions.
“Flexologists use a stretching technique called proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) that uses resistance to target the body’s tissues and ligaments and improve muscle elasticity,” says Jenna. “You are never in pain and always in control of your stretch. We’ll push you further than you’d push yourself so you experience more significant results. We can actually feel your muscles responding.”
Your StretchLab Flexologist is your wellness partner. Through every stretch, they explain what they’re doing and not only welcome, but depend on your feedback to ensure your stretch is addressing your specific needs.
“Stretching consistently will increase your performance, prevent injury, improve recovery and help you move more freely,” says Jenna. “That’s the best part about what we do at StretchLab—help you reach your goals then prepare you to reach new ones. And spring is a great time to get started. We’re already motivated to get moving; it’s time to let StretchLab get you back in the game of life.”
