Siding in a league of its own

The glamorous look of fiber-cement siding instantly boosts a home’s appeal and value, and Spartan StormShield is only one of a handful of companies in Ohio trained to install it.

Since 2012, Spartan StormShield has risen to the high standard of a premium roofing company in Northeast Ohio. Along the way, the local, family-owned company has diversified to serve homeowners by offering an equally premier umbrella of exterior home improvement services.

Founded by brothers Jarod and Joel Arlia, and later joined by Jeramie Lopez, the company lives up to its vision of putting in place a team of skilled and experienced professionals who work with the highest-quality roofing materials. They’ve never believed in cutting corners or compromising on quality.

For the past two years, its installers have worked with James Hardie fiber-cement siding, which is the number one of its kind on the market.

“What impressed us most is the wide-ranging benefits of the product,” says in-house siding expert Noel Aker.

He explains that fiber-cement siding delivers on the promise of beautiful aesthetic appeal, durability, low maintenance and being fire resistant. It’s also impervious to insects, pests and birds like woodpeckers, which can wreak havoc on siding.

Boosting Your Home’s Value

Nothing boosts a home’s value more than new siding, and Noel reports fiber-cement siding offers a higher ROI than standard vinyl siding, up to the 85-90% range versus 65-70% for traditional siding, according to Remodeling magazine’s cost versus value report.

As a lower cost alternative to wood siding—about 40% less—the company introduced fiber-cement siding as a hard-working, high- performance option, better than wood and traditional vinyl siding. Though it may cost more than vinyl siding, in the end you won’t need to replace it as often.

“We feel its high-end looks, mimicking wood lap siding, panels, shingle/shake and board and batten, opened up better selection for our customers,” says Noel. “It suits any home style, from farmhouse rustic to modern. We’re seeing homeowners blend different styles, too. There’s a wide variety of colors, shapes and textures to choose from. Thanks to proprietary ColorPlus Technology, the durable finishes are baked onto the siding to resist fading, chipping or cracking. It’s a nice fit with Northeast Ohio’s wildly fluctuating climate conditions.”

He says a Spartan StormShield representative can take a photo of a home and show its owner how different mock-up renderings will look.

Strengthening Structural Integrity

With a more complicated installation protocol, Noel says it’s key that all of Spartan StormShield’s installers have undergone and continue to undergo hands-on training at the Akron-based James Hardie facility.

“Since it weighs a lot more than traditional siding, it’s trickier to handle,” says Noel, noting they are one of a handful of companies that offer James Hardie siding in Ohio. “The good news about its weight is that fiber-cement siding can strengthen a home’s structural integrity. And it will not warp, expand or contract.”

In addition to siding and roofing, Spartan StormShield is doubling down on their efforts to educate homeowners regarding the importance of regular roof maintenance and repair. By breaking down complex concepts into simple, understandable logic, Spartan StormShield is fostering a growing community of informed, proactive homeowners who are equipped to safeguard their investments against the elements.

With their schedule filling fast, call now and a representative can pay your home a visit within one or two days to get the ball rolling.

Armed with product innovation and trusted craftsmanship from highly trained crews, Spartan StormShield lives up to its reputation for installing “the roof system to last your lifetime.” It installs and repairs roofs for homes and businesses all over Northeast Ohio. Financing options for siding and roofing are available.

The Seven Deadly Sins of Poor Roof Installation

During Spartan StormShield’s free inspection, a roof specialist is looking to detect what they call the seven deadly sins of poor roof installation:

  1. Eaves to gutters: Where the roof transitions to the gutters.
  2. Pipe flashings: Where pipe vents stick through the roof.
  3. Chimneys: The areas around and on top of the chimney.
  4. Side walls: Where the roof shingles touch the house walls.
  5. Nail pops: Where nails come loose and stick up due to expansion/contraction.
  6. Sealant, locations and life expectancy: Places that need to be properly sealed with caulk.
  7. Ventilation: Making sure the attic has enough air flow to prevent mold.

Although the chimney above looked normal from the outside, there was extensive damage hiding underneath it.
