Dogs that thrive!
The first Scenthound in Ohio is redefining pet care with affordable monthly hygiene services focused on prevention, education and healthier lives.

Opened this spring as the first location in Ohio, Scenthound bridges the gap between traditional grooming and preventive wellness services. Owners Phil and Lesley Trendell, dog-lovers themselves, were searching for the right business opportunity when they discovered the brand.
“ The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.”

If you’re one of the nearly 68 million American households with a dog, you understand the sentiment. Dogs aren’t just pets, they’re family. And like any beloved family member, their health and well-being matter.
This ties into the mission behind Scenthound in Aurora, a novel, forward-thinking concept that’s already redefining how pet families in the area are caring for their four-legged friends.
Opened this spring as the first location in Ohio, Scenthound bridges the gap between traditional grooming and preventive wellness services.
Owners Phil and Lesley Trendell, dog-lovers themselves, were searching for the right business opportunity when they discovered the brand.
“We immediately connected with the mission,” says Lesley. “This isn’t just about how a dog looks—it’s about how they feel, live and thrive. We emphasize routine hygiene as the cornerstone for long-term health.”
Behind the Acronym
In case you’re wondering about the name, it has nothing to do with your pooch’s aroma. It’s actually a clever acronym for the five essential areas of canine care that are covered within a wellness appointment: Skin, Coat, Ears, Nails and Teeth. These are the building blocks of a dog’s overall wellness, and spots that, if neglected, can lead to bigger health issues down the road.
As soon as you walk into Scenthound, you see the “knowledge wall,” which gives some interesting statistics behind the acronym:
• Skin issues are the number one reason dogs see the vet.
• Matted hair can lead to hot spots, parasites and infections.
• About 20% of dogs suffer from ear infections, which can be prevented by keeping ears clean and dry.
• Overgrown nails can lead to skeletal and mobility problems.
• 90% of dogs have some level of periodontal disease, which leads to bad breath, inflammation, tooth loss and infections.
Of course, for dogs that need more services, haircuts and specialized treatments are available as add-ons. Seasonal services, such as de-shedding treatments in the fall and spring, help address changing needs throughout the year.
“We see a lot of shedding breeds like Huskies and offer treatments designed to safely remove excess hair and keep coats healthy,” says Phil. “Our packages are designed to incorporate only what each dog breed needs. We also offer 24/7 virtual veterinary care in some of the packages.”
Leading with Prevention, Connection
The couple notes the response to the Aurora Scenthound has been so overwhelmingly positive, they already plan to open a second location in the Stow-Hudson area and are scouting out a third.
In addition to all the great preventive care options, Scenthound is a one-stop shop, offering a full retail line of products for dog parents to best treat their pups at home, from treatment shampoos and conditioners to paw balms, cooling sprays and a hemp calming aid.
As the pet care industry continues to grow, Phil and Lesley are carving out a new category, one rooted in prevention, education and connection.
“Our goal is to help dogs live longer, happier lives and strengthen the bond they share with their people,” says Phil.
Look for the folks at Scenthound to be featured on an episode of CLE Weekend on WOIO-TV this month. The cost of monthly membership packages starts at $39.
