At home with Taylor's

Celebrating 35 years, Taylor’s Furniture & Bedding combines the latest looks and comforts with the kind of personal service that never goes out of fashion

Alexa Dawes is a business owner who can say she literally grew up in her family business—Taylor’s Furniture & Bedding. In fact, there are adorable photos of her chewing on price tags as a toddler.

Founded by her father David in 1991, Medina County’s largest furniture store is now celebrating its 35-year anniversary. David built two buildings on Pearl Road in Brunswick and operated the successful business until his retirement in 2018, when Alexa took the reins.

Personal Design Help

Over the decades, the store has grown into a 43,000-square-foot destination for every room in the home, yet Alexa says its success has less to do with square footage than something increasingly difficult to find: personalized service.

“We’ve always treated people like family, not like a number,” she says. “I like being able to help someone who might not know exactly what they want, to help them find something that fits their home and their lifestyle—and then watch them leave with a smile.”

That philosophy has created loads of loyalty. Alexa estimates 80% of Taylor’s customers have shopped there before, with many families returning through three generations.

Unlike shopping at big-box stores, the experience here is built around conversation. Shoppers can browse at their own pace, then work with someone who understands everything from room dimensions and fabric durability to how a sectional will function for busy families with children and pets.

Putting the Fun in Functional

Today’s furniture does more than look beautiful. Alexa says her own latest purchase of a super comfy reclining sectional exceeded her expectations.

“We went with a brown corduroy selection that’s great for my three dogs and two cats,” she says. “Once you enjoy the comfort of reclining at the end of the day, you never want to go back to a traditional piece. The drop-down cupholders and built-in charging stations add functionality, too.

We’re seeing a few manufacturers add heat and massage capabilities, which people love.”

Comfort may be king, but she says customization is also having a moment. Manufacturers like Best Chairs, England and Luke Home offer hundreds of selections of fabrics and wood trims.

You’ll find an expansive leather gallery within the store, along with kitchen and dining tables, coffee and occasional tables, sectionals, sofas, chairs, bookcases, bars, barstools and desks.

“We also offer the Mega Motion line of medical-grade lift chairs designed to make sitting and standing easier. These are top sellers,” she adds.

Rounding out the furniture and bedding offerings are all the goodies to elevate your vibe, from a stylish table, overhead and floor lighting to wall art, mirrors, show plants, vases and decorative pottery.

“We cater to every style, from contemporary to farmhouse, coastal chic and traditional,” she says.

Within the adjacent Sleep Shop building, there’s an extensive bedding and clearance center, with mattresses in a range of sizes, firmness and price points, as well as those with the increasingly popular adjustable bases. Dressers, chests, storage beds and bunk beds are also available to browse in this building.

“Our service doesn’t end when the furniture leaves the showroom,” she says. “We offer delivery and one year of in-home service covering manufacturer defects, sending our team to assess problems and determine if a piece can be repaired or replaced. We want our customers to know they will be taken care of after the purchase.”

Get Ready for the Holidays

With the holidays just weeks away, the good news is you can refresh your space with gorgeous new furniture within one to three weeks, plenty of time before opening your doors to family and guests.
