The word “flooring” might be in the name, but the family at Guhde Flooring America & Design Studio has evolved over the past 66 years to carry all that and so much more.

Under one roof in the fabulous showroom, you’ll find a one-stop shop of everything needed for any renovation. Save time and money while consulting with a designer and shopping for everything including the kitchen sink, an extensive selection of cabinetry, countertops, tile, lighting, hardware, faucets, and, of course, flooring.

Built on Trust
“Since our clients had built a level of trust with us over the years, we made the decision to expand our original model of flooring,” says Office Manager Monica Guhde-Rosa. “It began with bringing in Cambria countertops. Then to meet the surge in demand, we researched the cabinetry market, opting for several top manufacturers we had faith in. Now we literally offer anything needed in a kitchen, bath, basement or whole-house renovation.”

The evolution of the Guhde’s dynasty in home renovation began with grandfather Donald, who opened his first flooring store in 1957. His passion for customer service and craftsmanship was handed down to son Mike, who followed in his footsteps. Mike opened a spacious showroom in Painesville in 1989.

A generation later, and Mike Sr. and wife Diane’s children, Michael Jr. and Monica, along with her husband, Shawn Rosa, are at the helm in their respective roles of general manager, office manager and sales manager.

In 2022, the family moved to an amazing new showroom studio on the terrace level of the Platinum Center in Mentor. Filled with gorgeous product displays and design tables, they represent the top-selling styles in the industry.

Last month, Kitchen and Bath Designer Jillian Brickman joined the group, bringing with her rare talent and expertise in the industry.

Top Quality, Selection, Style
The family joined the nationwide retail group Flooring America to boost its product selection and affordability. It’s a decision that makes good sense for the customer. Today, in addition to customers who are homeowners, many of Guhde’s customers are also some of the best contractors in the region. That’s because those in the trades know Guhde can help them do the best job they can—and be best they can be. They depend on the family’s decades of experience, talent and product knowledge.

Installation is also an integral part of every job. Over the years the family has forged relationships with the most experienced installers in the area. They take pride in their craftsmanship and a job well done.

Translating trends to suit their individual clients is where the Guhdes shine.

Trend Report
To stay ahead of emerging trends, Shawn and Monica recently returned from The International Surfaces Event in Las Vegas.

One of the hottest trends they noticed emerging in flooring was the return of terrazzo look floors.

“It was everywhere,” says Shawn. “This type of flooring was a big trend in the 1970s. Its modern iteration is unexpected, a fresh take on this durable and maintenance-free flooring made from chips of marble, quartz or glass embedded in a composite.”

Another trend is mixing shapes, finishes and textures.

“Borders and shapes-within-shapes were a highlight at the show,” says Monica. “And three-dimensional and highly textural tiles remain popular.”

The family is currently working on several amazing home renovations throughout Northeast Ohio. Look for before and after photos and case studies in the coming months in Mimi magazine.

“We’re working on some very cool concepts from a design perspective,” says Shawn. “For instance, in one home we created a waterfall effect of undulating pebble tiles within a backdrop of regular tiles that create the feeling of a river flowing from the ceiling to floor of a shower. It’s stunning.”

Translating trends to suit their individual clients is where the Guhdes shine. Whether it’s tile, flooring, cabinets or countertops, come into the Design Studio and explore the possibilities with them.
