Turn the reins toward renovation

Guhde Flooring America & Design Studio gallops toward grandeur, guided by seasoned flooring experts who help you charge confidently ahead with inspired design.

In the spirit of the year of the Fire Horse, Guhde Flooring America & Design Studio’s decades of expertise help homeowners ride boldly into their next renovation. Let the experts guide you toward a space you love.

According to Chinese Astrology, 2026 is the year of the Fire Horse. It occurs about every 60 years and signifies a surge of energy, change and momentum. And, look out. The last time we experienced a Fire Horse year in 1966, the cultural revolution was beginning, NASA made its first successful soft landing on the moon and a fearsome foursome known as The Beatles broke up in 1970 and played their last public concert.

When it comes to flooring and home renovation, the local leaders who will be ushering us through this time of epic change and opportunity are the folks at Guhde Flooring America & Design Studio.

Since 1957, the Guhde family has grown its business by staying on the lookout for product innovation and embracing the same customer service-forward values held by founder, father and grandfather Donald Guhde.

Making the Process Simple

Last month, Mike Guhde and kitchen and bath designer Jillian Brickman returned from a national flooring convention in Denver.

“An interesting statistic we found out is that currently 65% of homeowners want to replace their flooring,” says Mike. “But what’s stopping them from pulling the trigger is they feel confused by the mind-boggling number of flooring options and overwhelmed by the process. They abandon ship before ever beginning.”

Demystifying product selection and simplifying the renovation process is where Mike and his staff shine.

“We take pride in making the client experience enjoyable and stress-free,” he says. “There are a lot of myths about flooring out there. New flooring offers a lot, from water resistance to scratch resistance and fabulous looks, but there are so many types on the market—laminates, LVT, LVP, SPC, WPC, etc.—people don’t know which would be the best fit for them. The names have changed, too. For instance, what used to be called ‘berber’ is now ‘loop.’ We educate people about all the options available.”

The first step in the process is easy; Just walk in the door.

Located on the terrace level of the Platinum Center in Mentor, the Design Studio includes an impressive selection of trending lines. They’ve recently overhauled the showroom to make it even more customer-friendly, with curated, well-organized groupings of products. Thanks to the Product Visualizer, you can upload a photo of your space and see how it will appear with any style of flooring.

Taking That First Step

“Twenty-five years ago, we ran a television commercial with the jingle, ‘The first step to a beautiful home is stepping into Guhde Flooring,’ and I feel that rings true today,” says Mike.

During a complimentary design consultation, either Mike or Jillian will take the time to get to know your signature style and lifestyle needs for new flooring or a home renovation project.

They spell out every part of the process clearly for clients and have put together a pre-installation checklist along the lines of the book "What to Expect when You’re Expecting," detailing every part of a job in advance.

After your initial shopping trip, someone from Guhde will come to your home to take measurements and assess the job’s parameters. Then after you approve the estimate, your installation takes place.

“After every job, we do a final walk-through to make sure the client is thrilled,” he adds.

Are you ready to hop on the Year of the Fire Horse momentum and bravely set in motion positive change in your home? Guhde Flooring America will take you there and make the ride easy and fun. Onward!

Backed by the buying power of a 500-store nationwide retail flooring group, Guhde Flooring America offers its clients some of the lowest prices, best warranties, and widest selection in the industry.

Trend Predictions for 2026

Mike Guhde and kitchen and bath designer Jillian Brickman recently returned from a national flooring convention and have their fingers on the pulse of trending styles making their way to Northeast Ohio.

Here’s a Top 5 list of their predictions:

  1. Look for a return to naturals, whether in colors, textures, wood styles or natural stone looks.
  2. People are exploring deeper, darker, moodier color palettes.
  3. Classic subway tiles are getting a modern nod with different colors and textures.
  4. Carpeting is making a comeback, especially in bold patterns and interesting textures that add visual depth to a room.
  5. Wallpaper, with large-scale graphics like grasses, geometrics and florals, is also becoming popular again.

“At the end of the day, I tell customers the trends that matter most are the ones that appeal to their personal style aesthetic,” she says. “Working together, we pull together a cohesive look that uniquely reflects the homeowner. We want them to love their home.”
