A seamless path to breast health

UH Parma Medical Center’s Comprehensive Breast Health Center makes breast care and recovery more convenient—close to home.
Following its successful opening this winter, the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at UH Parma Medical Center has quickly become a vital resource for women seeking a higher level of care, closer to home. What was once a long-term vision for local medical leaders is now an active hub of healing, designed to streamline everything from routine screenings to advanced surgical consultations.
Located in Medical Arts Center 4, the center was built to solve a common problem in health care: the stress of navigating multiple offices for follow-up care. By unifying breast health services in one modern facility, UH Parma is ensuring that patients can focus on their recoveries rather than the logistics of their appointments.
“We’ve seen a tremendous response from the community since we began seeing patients here,” says James Hill, MD, Chief Operating Officer of UH Parma Medical Center. “By bringing these specialties together in one place, we are already seeing how much of a difference it makes when a patient can move from a screening to a specialist consultation without the extra steps and unnecessary worry.”
A Faster Path to Answers
Efficiency is at the heart of the center’s mission. For patients who receive concerning findings on a mammogram, the facility is equipped to handle follow-up imaging, ultrasound-guided tests, or stereotactic breast biopsies in one familiar setting. In many instances, the coordination is so seamless patients can consult with a surgeon on the same day as their follow-up.
The facility features two of the latest 3D mammography units, providing enhanced diagnostic accuracy that can lead to earlier detection. For Dr. Sherry Hillier, a radiologist who has served Parma for over 25 years, seeing the center in full operation is the fulfillment of a career-long goal. “Being able to offer this level of advanced technology and personal care right here in Parma is exactly what our patients deserve,” she says.
Expert Guidance Every Step of the Way
A key pillar of the center’s success is the Breast Health Navigator, a role dedicated to helping patients navigate the complexities of their healthcare journey. Brook Codner, RN, serves as a personal liaison, ensuring that no patient must manage their care alone.
“Our goal is to make sure every woman who walks through our doors feels completely supported,” says Brook. “Whether it’s answering questions about a procedure or coordinating between specialists, I’m here to be a direct line of support so our patients can stay focused on feeling better.”
A Community Investment
The $3 million project, which transformed the space in Medical Arts Center 4, was made possible through a unique blend of federal and state grants alongside significant philanthropic support from the Parma Hospital Health Care Foundation and local donors.
“This center is a testament to the fact that you cannot take the community out of Parma Hospital,” says Dr. Richard Ungvarsky, one of the surgeons practicing at the center. “We are proud to be a permanent, vital part of this city’s health and well-being.
