Treating wounds that won't heal

Dr. Sonja Stiller, Center for Advanced Vein Care • May 5, 2025

Introducing a new wound care center at Center for Advanced Vein Care.

Having a wound that won’t heal is not only frustrating, it also affects our quality of life and indicates an underlying health problem.

Unfortunately, many people assume the condition must be related to aging or diabetes, believing there is little that can be done and resorting instead to covering the wound with long pants to avoid embarrassment. But there often is something that can be done.

At the Center for Advanced Vein Care, we’re excited to highlight a growing focus within our practice: wound care. We’re also thrilled to welcome Lindsay to the CAVC family. She’s a registered nurse with more than 10 years of experience specializing in wound care.

Traditionally, patients are instructed to visit a wound care clinic two or three times a week for several months—a schedule that can be difficult to maintain due to work and other responsibilities. At CAVC, our approach is different. We aim to give patients a strong start toward healing and, when appropriate, teach them how to care for their wounds at home. This empowers patients with greater independence in managing their health.

We also emphasize diagnosing and treating the underlying cause of wounds, with the goal of preventing recurrence. In many cases, wounds are linked to venous insufficiency—something we are uniquely equipped to address.

So instead of avoiding the doctor and hiding your condition, let us help your wounds heal and get you back into your favorite shorts and enjoying the active lifestyle you remember.

Please give our office a call if you’re suffering from a wound that won’t heal, or any of the following symptoms:

  • leg pain or swelling
  • heaviness or fatigue
  • itching, tingling or burning
  • inflammation
  • skin discoloration
  • restless legs syndrome.

Dr. Sonja Stiller is a diplomat of both the American Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine and the UIP 2023 Lead Chair for Scientific Abstracts. She is the founder of the Center for Advanced Vein Care, a Tier 1 provider with Lake Health Hospital System. The center’s offices are at 7200 Mentor Avenue, in Mentor. For an appointment, call 440-710-1140. Visit YourHealthyVeins.com.
